  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

2015 Blown Amplifier

Heck no. They just said it was defective. I’ll ask tho.
I thought they might have said it somewhere on the invoice...

You by any chance didn't open it up after it's been repaired? I would like to see what was worked on. $550 is a lot to replace most likely something simple on the power supply side of the amp.

Im almost sure it was something simple. I just didnt wanna deal with it or pay $3000.00 through Hyundai and everything else I looked up. This was my better option. But No, I didn't open it to see.

Curious... What are your listening habits? Loud for long periods? Audio gear is usually pretty dependable. Component failures are usually the result of voltage spikes or prolonged high current. I've run my volume occasionally near max but not for long. May be another thing for me to respect.

I had a diagnostic test ran at Hyundai. They told me that it was overheating, causing it to shut off. It would go out after I turned volume up passed about 37...flickering in and out first. I guess finally it just blew. I knew what was wrong but as far as what part...not sure. I'll see if I can get that info.

Knowing which $1 part(s) to replace is worth something too...

Thank you! I saw this one and was about to purchase then ran across the guy that repairs them for $549. I contacted them and it’s a go with a year warranty! I’ve already pulled my amp out and ready to send. Crosses fingers....he has great reviews. Thanks again!
Hey, how do you like your new radio?

I have a 2016 with the same problem. If as many people contact Hyundai is possible they may recall it. Their phone number 844-340-9741. If not I'd like to see about starting a class action lawsuit. Cuz that amp being bad shuts the radio the phone GPS. Lexicon service center which is United Radio. Doesn't fix them anymore. Because of the issues and they weren't built properly to carry the 17 speakers.
Put me down for that "class Action" suit as I'm dealing with this very issue as of this writing! Sitting here with my 2016 Genesis 3.8 Htrac and just diagnosed as having a bad amp. I'm told that they're on back order and my factory warranty is no good as I'm slightly over the 100,000 warranty. "Amp Assy, audio - replace" with a $2,467.65 for the part....'As If!?!'

This is an old thread, but I’m going to add some insight: we had the same issue, and opted to send the amp to the guy that’s repairing them through e-bay. Boxed mine up and sent it back, got one back fairly quickly, and re-installed. Works like a charm.

However, in my correspondence with the guy, he said that the problem is not with the amp itself, but some of the speakers in the system. We have the high-end Lexicon speaker package in our ‘15 3.8, but I don’t know if the problem is unique to those circumstances. He said that ultimately, one or more of the speakers only has 3 ohm of resistance, and this amp can handle that kind of load over time, PARTICULARLY at high volumes. I was told that I needed to identify any speakers in the car that had less than 4 ohm of resistance and replace them, or run the risk of blowing the amp again. I honestly don’t know which ones are the problem and need to be replaced, to be honest. We have just made a mental note to never turn it up past 25, and are hoping it won’t present a problem - so far, so good (a month after re-install). It sucks b/c I like destroying my eardrums, but it beats riding around in absolute silence like we did for the past few months.

It would be really easy to identify with an ohm-meter.

Hey can you connect me to the person you found to fix this problem ?

Jmoney...

Myricle...

Any chance you have a decent pic of the 44 pin IC's (showing the part number) The one's you can see on the right side of the last pic you posted? Only manf. that I can find is NXP. The case looks the same but numbers are not. These are multi channel audio amplifiers that are most likely to be the failures in these amps, especially if you crank it for long periods of time.

Too bad you didn't take a look at the board after it was repaired. It would be pretty obvious if they were replaced due to the conformal coating being removed.

Some of these are reasonably priced (under $35) and could easily be replaced with a hot air gun. I'd be happy to save some folks here some money if we could find the proper replacement part.

Is it easy to take out and replace yourself ? Also do you know where to locate the amplifier I been searching my 15 genesis but didn’t come across it just yet
