  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Getting off of the highway and comping to a stop at the light and the motor cuts off. The panel lights stayed on, but when I tried to restart it nothing....no turning over, no clicking, no nothing. After sitting at the light for five minutes backing up traffic I push the start button and it fires right up as if nothing is wrong. Drove it home with no problems. No check engine light is on so no code was thrown. That being said I have a very small transmission fluid leak from my plastic transmission oil pan that I getting ready to replace as soon as it comes in (who uses a plactic transmission oil pan??
The transmission fluid may be a little low but not enough to cause any transmission shifting problems.

With all that being said does anyone have any clue why the car suddenly cut off as mentioned above, and then started right up five minutes later, and would a low transmission fluid level possibly cause some sort of fail safe to activate (cutting the car off to let the tranny cool possibly} to keep from messing up the tranny? Never heard of an engine cutting off becaose of low tranny fluid, but who knows with these newer cars.

Thanks in advance for any reply

I don't know about this particular car, but low transmission fluid has been known to cause engine stalls on some other cars. Or course that would not explain there being no attempt to restart the engine. You did shift into neutral (or park) before trying to restart, didn't you? (My son made this mistake a little while back. It's easy to do in the heat of the moment.)

Thank you for the reply. Yes I put it in park and tried to restart it. The reason I knnow this is because I tried to shift it into neutral hoping to "roll" it onto the side of the road to alleviate my backing the traffic up, and it wouldnt let me shift to neutral.
