  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis Model Type
Equus (2011-2016)
Alright friends....I'm a 2009 Audi A8L owner looking to go 2015 Equus Ultimate. I have one for $33k with 23k miles on it. It is on Carmax. Any input at all would be appreciated. I have to test drive it obviously but I've been doing a lot of research and I like big, luxury cars but am tired of paying $50k for them.......I've driven a LS460 as well so I know enough about luxury. I need to know about the Equus. Thanks so much, cheers. tkh

I think that's high for a 15... unless that includes some sort of extended warranty. You are probably less than a year from being out of the factory warranty due to time.

For reference,last year I bought a 15 Signature with 36k on it for 25.5k....

Can anyone list the differences between 2015 signature and ultimate?

Per KBB:

Notable Standard Equipment
For 2016, Hyundai’s Equus luxury sedan is available in just two trims, Signature and Ultimate. Signature could be considered the "base" trim, but it's hardly lacking. This least expensive Equus comes with a V8 engine, 8-speed automatic transmission, navigation system with 9.2-inch command screen, tri-zone climate control, that 17-speaker Lexicon audio system we already raved about (see Favorite Features), smart cruise control, blind-spot monitoring and premium leather seating with suede headliner. Other passenger-oriented amenities include heated and cooled front seats, heated rear seats, heated steering wheel and power rear sunshade.

Notable Optional Equipment
As there are no options for the 2016 Hyundai Equus, buyers seeking the ultimate version can spend about $7,000 more for the Ultimate trim. It lives up to that name with forward and multi-view camera systems to ease parking, hands-free power-operated trunk, 12.3-inch TFT LCD instrument panel and head-up display. Rear-seat passengers are treated to cooled seats, rear-screen entertainment system with twin 9.2-inch monitors, power lumbar support and vanity mirrors. Another especially neat feature is the power door closure, which automatically and gently shuts the door.

I bought a 40K 2015 Signature for about $24K from Carmax, and that included a 5 yr/60K mile extended warranty. If that helps

That is exactly what happened to me. My warranty expired about 3 months ago exactly when the problems began to appear. I am thinking that maybe, these cars are programmed to start giving problems right after the warranty expires.

Hello, I am an old man who has driven 3 Lexus and my wife still drives one. Bought a 2016 equus per my grandsons recommendations Jan 2019, call me Joe 501-690-6065

I bought this accident-free 40,000-mile car 9 months ago, relying on my research and the good reviews. However, it appears that the Hyundai Equus model has yet to master the finesse that is required in high-end vehicles. Now at 48000 miles, the leather covering of the dashboard has lifted from its base (see pics). I took it to Rick Case Hyundai service department (and to many other experts in the upholstering business) and was told that the leather covering of the dashboard has shrunk and may continue to shrink further (see attached pictures). The dealer claims that several similar issues had come up and if this car is over 5 years old, it is no longer under warranty and may be fixed at a cost of $4,500.00. The high cost is due to the front windshield and the dashboard that must be removed. I was also advised that the Equus and the now G90 models are warranted for 10 years or 100,000 miles for power train (engine, transmission, and differential) only. The electronics or any other component is warranted for 5 years or 60,000 miles. In addition to the above issue, when cruising (with cruise control activated) on the expressway at 75MPH, the car would suddenly shut off, slowing down considerably, and would self-power-up a few seconds later. At other times, the brakes would self apply when passing or being passed by vehicles on the adjacent lanes almost causing me to be rear-ended at high speed. I was advised that one of the taillights showed condensation inside of it, a fissure on the taillight assembly that allowed water to get in thereby shorting the entire electronics. Dealer cost for the repair, $1,800.00. I called Hyundai and was flatly told that it was my problem to have it fixed, not theirs as the car, just recently being over 5 years, was out of warranty. I ended up fixing the tail light at a cost of $1350.00. I still have the tail light assembly, it had about one-half gallon of water inside, however, the technician was baffled as to how the water was able to get inside of it as the unit appeared well-sealed, without any cracks and unbroken. Although the vehicle is a performer, it appears that Hyundai is lacking in the area of quality control that is required in high-end vehicles. The above-mentioned issues, if not properly addressed by the vehicle manufacturer, will eventually result in fatalities. Also, small and annoying defects in these vehicles are proven to be super expensive to repair. Hyundai/Kia is going to havve to do a lot of work to regain my loyalty. Hello BMW, CADILLAC and MERCEDES...
