  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have a 2015 3.8l sedan, a few years ago my son pumped a couple quarters into the CD player causing the head unit to fail. Infotainment screen went completely black. Even while black, when I would go in reverse I could see a color change/light as if the rear camera was trying to work. Had the unit replaced at my local Hyundai/Genesis dealer. They fixed it, but I didn't check my backup camera and went on my way. Noticed later on that when I go in reverse the infotainment screen doesn't change at all. If it's carplay, it stays on carplay, makes no attempt to switch to the backup camera, no black screen, no guide lines, just stays on what it was prior to reverse. I was dumb and lazy, and did not go back to the dealer quick enough. Any suggestions on where to start to solve myself? I was going to start in the trunk and check the wiring/connection, but feel like it has something to do with the replaced cd head unit/connection.

This is a know issue related to cracked wire insulation in your truck / rear camera wiring.
There is a TSB as well. TSB number: 20-BE-007H
You can diagnose this issue further by doing below tests:
1. Put your camera in reverse and get someone to open the truck, observe car screen and record if there is any flickering
2. Check if all brake lights, rear indicator light, or reverse gear lights are malfunctioning. If so there is a chance you have damaged wire harness in the trunk

Step by step Solution (if above tests are true):
1.Order some self-solder butt splice connector from Amazon
2. Oder some wire that is rated for the temperature of your residence. I ordered wire reel from Digikey that was rated for -40C (Welcome to Canada).
Decide for yourself, does your car go to frigid areas for prolonged time, then order something reliable.
3. Follow TSB, find the culprit wires and repair.

While repairing, pay attention to the fact that you will be removing the cracked/exposed wires, that means the overall length of the culprit wire will be reduced. Make sure to add a little extra amount of replacement wire. This will allow the harness some wiggle room and not get stretched due to length differences.

Hope that helps. Good luck.

Much appreciated it. I am in New Jersey, so cold but not as cold as you. Once we get a warm spell I will start with this and see how it works.
