  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Has anyone had their vehicle make a wheezing noise about 15 seconds after shutting it off, it only lasts for about 1 second (from under the hood). I have to drive for about 10 miles for it to do it. As soon as I open my door to get out is about the length of time that passes when I hear it. I replaced the tensioner and the pulley, but still get the wheezing. Its not the door FYI. Tell me what you think.

This is probably a little different from what you're talking about, but right after I shut off my 2015 3.8, I hear a squeaking sound from under the hood for about 15 seconds to 2 minutes, depending on how hot it is. I figure that this is just the fan slowing down. I don't hear it squeaking any other time though, so it might just be how that specific bearing is.

Ya that sounds different, mine is quick, and then its over. It is very predictable when it will happen after you've heard it a few times. Definitely not the fan in my car. thanks for the reply !

Have you tried opening the hood and windows to listen to the wheezing when you turn the engine off? Maybe record it. May be an air or vacuum leak..

My 2015 3.8 was at the dealer for that same problem, it turn out that it is the air condition fan bearing, which was correctly diagnosed by my local mechanic, the good thing is my extended warranty covers it, I'm waiting on replacement parts ordered by the dealer.

My wife took video of the car making that noise at shut down.

The dealer said it was normal. It's not, if it were it would have always done it

Do you know where the neighbor's cat is?

Sounds like air moving in or out of something. Perhaps someone will know for sure, but I'd check all hose connections for leaks. Vacuum lines hoses to power brakes etc. I don't think the belt, but crazy things do happen, check the tension.
Don't agree with the dealer. If it was normal they should be able to tell you exactly what it is.

Its definitely not normal, my noise was different, a high pitch squeak, it stopped when the dealer replaced the air condition fan located by the radiator. They said it was the fan bearing.

A little update, when I turn "off" all HVAC functions before I shut the vehicle off the squeal doesnt happen. I am leaning towards the A/C expansion valve. You can hear the expansion valve hissing at shut down then the squeak, and a little more hissing.

I dont really think its the compressor, because its done spinning when the noise happens.

-Thoughts ?

I replaced the A/C expansion block. That wasn't the noise maker. Car still makes that awful noise.
