  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I went to get my oil changed and turned off my car and locked it. Went to get back in it and there is zero power going to the car.
Key fob won’t work and evidently it’s a aftermarket fob because the key part isn’t cut to get in that way. So I can’t even open the hood. It did this once before but only for 5 minutes and my car wasn’t locked at the time. It was almost like the car reset itself. This time it’s going on 4 hours and still nothing. I have read I could shake the positive cable but I can’t get inside the car to pop the hood. Any help would be appreciated

Beat on the rear right quarter panel and right side of trunk lid.

The battery is in the trunk under the right side floor mat. The positive terminal box is loose on the battery post.

Thank you very much for that. I’ll have to get that fixed. Hopefully it isn’t to expensive

You might be able to shim the post to increase tightness. I wound up replacing with a different type of post clamp.

Just grab the cable where it's bolted to the battery and tug in it, back and forth. If you can move it, it's not tight enough. A socket set well let you tighten it up. Just be careful to not touch the tool to metal in the trunk when working with the positive terminal.

That's assuming the teeth still exist on the ring terminal and haven't been carbonized off. Usually, if the beating trick works, it means there's nothing left of the teeth to engage the battery post properly and no matter how hard you try to tighten the terminal there is no slack to take up.

And at this point Jworth will probably have experienced one or two random chatters from the power steering at low speeds.

What do you mean experienced one or two random chatters? Also, I took it to the dealership to get a key code to get this aftermarket key cut and asked them about it also. They said it was the fuel pump control module probably going out. I then stopped by a local mechanic and just asked him and he looked at the battery and said the piece that is on top wasn’t on straight to unscrew and pull it up and straighten it out. He couldn’t understand how the dealership came up with the fuel pump problem.

The dealership came up with it as a way to separate you from your money...
