  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hey All,

I've read through several posts about this that seem to be older, along with general searching on Reddit and YouTube, but it seems like there aren't clear instructions to changing the Driver Side Spark Plugs on this beautiful car.

I'm pretty handy, have serviced all my cars in the past but this is my first roadblock with what I thought is normally an easy job in Spark Plugs.

Does anyone have photos or a diagram of removing the manifold/getting to those plugs that I could follow? I've found a repair manual online (scribd.com/document/744233063/Genesis-Sedan-2015-2016-Service-Repair-Manual), but it isn't quite clear as I'm no auto tech.

My overall goal here is to make a guide or a video for anyone else to follow in the future to keep these beasts on the road.

Thanks in advance for anything anyone decides to provide.

I too am wanting to change the spark plugs on my 2015 3.8 AWD Genesis and would appreciate any information regarding spark plug change-out. I have been getting an intermittent misfire cylinder 6 code for some time now, but it is very brief and hardly noticeable before it turns from a flashing check engine to a steady check engine light. I was erasing the code with my scanner but I have stopped doing that because the check engine light will clear itself after several drive cycles. However, the whole sequence will repeat itself within days or weeks.

I have purchased 6 new NGK plugs and 1 new ignition coil for cylinder 6 and a gasket for the air plenum. I am a DIYer and have done all of the work so far on this car except tires. In 5 years of ownership I have changed the brake pads on all 4 wheels, battery, rear view camera, throttle body (because the failed electronics was putting the car in limp mode), and a radiator fan thermostat that failed causing car to overheat at idle.

But this spark plug job is intimidating. The passenger side, plugs 1,3,5 seems very doable as I can see the ignition coils. Looks like removing the air intake plenum and some other things on top will give the necessary access to the plugs. The drivers side, plugs 2,4,6 are the problem. Seems like removing the the throttle body and the air plenum will be required to get at the plugs. I believe I will need to remove the wiper arms and wiper cowling to get at the plenum bolts not visible by the fire wall.

If anyone has advice on this job or knows where and how many bolts need to be removed from the plenum in total I would greatly appreciate it.
