  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Midway between the 2 pieces of sunroof glass, directly above the driver's seat, there is a rattle that seems to be in the cover for the crossbar support. It is driving me nuts. I have no idea how to stop it from rattling. It only rattles when the sunroof is closed and if i place pressure on the plastic crossbar cover, the rattle stopps. It's not really a rattle, it's more of a friction rubbing noise and it's driving me insane. Does anyone know how to fix this? Seems like I need to remove this cover and address the plastic where it's meeting the metal crossbar support. Thanks.

Is it something that can be greased?

If you bought it new, is it under warranty?

I bought pre-owned and have had it for 3 years and the noise started about 7 months ago. I tried squirting silicone grease in between the plastic cover and the metal cross bar, which is where I believe the noise is coming from. Wish I could figure out how to remove the plastic cover.

I FIXED THE NOISE-100%!!!!!!!!!!! See pics. Blue tape illustrates where the damn squeak/rattle was coming from. I too tried silicone grease and it didn't work as I believe it was too viscous and would not spread out on its own. I purchased a can of WD40 "Dry Lube" at Home Depot. I bought "dry" because I was concerned about it dripping into the cabin and on me after spraying regular WD40 into the affected area. The picture with red scribbles illustrates exactly where I sprayed the DRY WD40. With the sunroof only in the UP position, NOT slid back at all and with my left hand holding the WD40 bottle inside the car, while I was standing outside the car on the driver's side, with my right hand, I positioned the red spray tube for the WD, over the top of the plastic cover and down into the very tiny gap that exists between the plastic housing cover and the metal crossbar. (picture 0282 shows the plastic housing on the bottom of the photo, the metal crossbar on the top of the photo and the red arrows is the gap that I sprayed with the WD40) I then gently sprayed the WD into the very fine gap between the metal and the plastic housing, from one side of the car to the other. I then took a paper towel and slid it back and forth in the same gap, in order to dry up any excess WD. This dry formula penetrated and spread out between the plastic housing and the metal support crossbar. Problem solved!

Good job! - glad you were able to locate the rattle anyway - sometimes that's the hardest part
