  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

The transmission will not engage when placed in "Drive".

Leaving a shopping center on Wednesday Nov 27, 2019, I back out of my parking space, placed the Genesis in "D" Drive and I did not feel the transmission engage. I pressed accelerator, the car did not go forward and the engine revved up. In addition, after taking my foot off the accelerator, the RPMs continued to climb until I place the car back in Park.

1. Transmission will not engage when in D 'Drive"
2. Reverse is working as advertised
3. After pressing then releasing accelerator in D position, the RPMs continue to climb settling in at about 2,500 even though the accelerator is no longer being pressed.

I repeated placing the car in Park and drive with no success
I attempted manual shifting with no success
I shut the car completely off and repeated the above steps several times with no success

The vehicle is currently at the dealer being diagnosed. Updates to come...

I was contacted by the service department and they are REPLACING THE TRANSMISSION with a new one. It will take about a week to get one in.

The car has 80,100 miles. I am the second owner. It has 28K miles when I purchased it. I have an extensive comprehensive vehicle protection plan.

The transmission was successfully replaced by the service department. The only information I got from service was that there was an INTERNAL FAILURE. Hyundai Service does not rebuild transmissions, they only drop and replace transmissions. The failed transmissions are sent back to Hyundai for complete diagnostics.

It took a total of 13 Calendar days to replace the transmission.

I take it you were provided with a loaner during that time? Was it a G80?

My car is a 2015 so it is not a G80.

Yes I had a rental car from Enterprise while the car was being repaired. I am the second owner of the car thus the 100,000K mile powertrain warranty is not afforded to me. However, I purchased an Extensive 5 year 125,000K mile mile warranty from my bank for $1,600 "Serviced by ASURION". This same warranty on multiple other cars I was considering ranged from $2,500 to $3,600.

My only complaint about the warranty company is that they had to send a technician out to verify the failure. It took 2 days for the technician to come out.

Total Repair Cost: $4,683.64

My Out of Pocket Cost: $0.00
