2015 Genesis 5.0 vs 2014 Equus Signature vs 2015 K900 Luxury VIP

Okay folks my last thread for a while about cars I can buy, promise. In this type of scenario what would you choose and why? For reference: 2 adults, one toddler and one more on the way. I don't want an SUV for my vehicle but my current midsize pickup just doesn't cut it (carseat behind the passenger means the passenger seat moves up a few less than comfortable inches).

So I started my search targeting the Genesis but then the Equus caught my eye because of the space advantage. the Genesis is the newest chassis, has the active lane assist and active suspension. I have yet to drive a v8 model though to get a feel for it. I was able to drive the Equus and it was such a creamy ride it was great. I'm not sure in the Equus if I need the features the Ultimate brings there (such as video screens in the rear.. no thanks). The k900 was really QUITE nice as well.. I think the interior is probably better appointed than the Equus actually and it also has a very nice panoramic roof. The pause for me there is reading that the headlights are $3k each and I am not sure a Kia extended warranty would cover them.

Lastly, I have months to wait so maybe I will just wait this out and see what the G80 and G90 releases do to pricing on these used cars. Finding a nice 2015 Genesis v8 Ultimate sure is a pain though.

I mean that is my hesitation really. If I am buying @ $30k that is 20% of the car's value and the kia/hyundai extended warranties seem to not cover headlights but maybe I am misunderstanding http://www.kiaextendedwarranty-kpp.com/Platcov.asp?state=#not under not covered: "glass, lenses, sealed beams," but I am not sure they consider these fancy LED lights "sealed beams" or what.

I don't know anything about the Kia. I'd definitely take the G2 Genesis sedan over the Equus though. I drove a couple (Equii?) when shopping and liked them but the Genesis is just a better car overall IMO.

Seems more a like a decision based upon what you value higher.

If you like the old school, plush ride (more body roll) and want the additional space - then get either the Equus or K900 (whichever one you like better in terms of style and interior).

If you want a more modern ride (something more planted going around corners) and the additional security of the CPO warranty, then get the Genesis.

As for interiors, the Genesis is not as luxurious as the other 2, but has closed the gap (and in certain areas is preferable).

But if this vehicle is for carry precious young ones, would opt for the Genesis.

More structurally rigid/engineered to pass the latest crash tests and probably has additional safety features the other 2 lack.

I love my G2 5.0 Ultimate but got it primarily for road trips. One other consideration, the Genesus and Equus are RWD V8s while I believe the K900 is FWD V6. A consideration depending on your winters.

^ You're mistaking the Cadenza for the K900.

The K900 is the cousin to the Equus - but in addition to the Tau V8, also has the option of the 3.8 V6.

K900 is RWD for sure. it is also a very good car. for me the dilemma will be G2 or K900

if you are looking for value then go for the k900...i drove one and it really has everything and its so nice inside and so cheap for such a big car. I really do think they didnt sell any because its a kia and maybe it doesnt look menacing like the new g2...but as far as value it seriously has that.

i mean the car is huge as large as a lexus ls, has all the features, alcantara ceiling, soft leather...but you should get this car only if you can get that kia out of your head lol...when i was shopping i couldnt get that kia out of my mind so i couldnt buy that k900 lol even though it was an awesome car.

Those video screens in back will be useful soon enough with young kids. Tough call. I drool over the few, sleek K900s that I see in the wild. Equus, not so much. The $30K ish price tag on the Kia means that somebody else already took the huge depreciation hit for you. That said, my Genny 3.8 RWD Tech is perfect for me. YMMV of course. Good luck with the decision.

I'd get the Genesis for the newer platform and technology, unless I had a chauffeur to drive me around or needed more leg room in the back seat for some reason. The Genesis will handle much better, but the softer suspension and slightly longer wheelbase of Equus/K900 will provide a smoother ride.

I would take the KIA. Reclining back seats, HUD and it's beautiful! I'm guessing you're not buying from a KIA dealer or I would have them certify the car.

I am amazed as well. My wife's 2011 Sonata (and 2003 accent) have been great cars but we were both quite shocked at just how GOOD the quality of materials in these cars actually are. The other really impressive thing was the quietness of the cars as well.

Thanks for the replies all. I'm definitely going to keep my eyes open in the next few months. I'm leaning towards the Genesis 5.0 ultimate or the k900 which both have terrible availability on the used market but I can bide my time looking.

The issue I have with the video screens in the Equus ultimate is that there are no rear headphone jacks for those screens! The salesman suggested turning front speakers down and back ones up but to me that is just a non starter. I'd rather take the savings and buy the kids iPads or something when we cross that bridge.
