2015 Genesis Fog Light question.... I want to add fog lights

I finished the initial headlight swap and fog lamp install. The headlamps will be another post.

Disconnect the battery of the car then wait at least 3 minutes prior to start working. The fog lamps where pretty much plug and play into the bumper for my car.. The wire harness that I bought off Ebay was actually wired inverted (I'll post the diagram). So I had to re-pin the four front parking sensors connectors in a mirrored fashion. But after that inconvenience, the sensors worked perfectly. Now as for the switch. If you look in the trunk on the right side under the carpet there is a fuse panel. Apparently if you have a fuse marked foglamp, there is a good chance that your wiring for the fog lamps exist.

Also, the front harness on the driver side bumper needs to have that extra wiring for the lamps.

Anyway, after putting all in, I moved to the steering column. I elected to swap out the multi-function switch with one from a 5.0 2015 vs adding a separate switch. it was a bit of a headache to get the airbag off, but I followed the instructions from the Hyundai Tech Info site (Drivers Air Bag Removal).

Once you finally get the Airbag off, you'll need a 21mm socket to get at the steering wheel column bolt, then you can remove the lower cover and upper covers and clock-spring

Install your shinny new multi-function switch and make sure not to damage any connections in the process an that all connectors are plugged in tight and screwed in tight.

Reinstall the clock-spring. There is a little white detent, push that in and gently rotate the clock-spring clock all the way right, till it stops. the rotate it back until the is a soft click and align the bottom arrows. Reinstall the bottom and upper covers.

I forgot to take the picture, but when putting the steering wheel back on, align the markings on the column and the wheel, and your golden. The service manual states to use a new steering wheel bolt......... torqued to 28.9 - 36.2 ft lbs.

Make sure to connect the horn connection and push the air bag connectors firmly into the unit and push in the retention clips. For some reason my airbag light came on because I didn't do this. This is probably not best practice, but since the airbag isn't easy to remove and to prevent any damage, once the connections to the airbag are made, gently place it on the steering wheel but don't press it in yet. Connect the battery and turn on the car. Your airbag light should come on and then turn off. Once that is verified, turn off the car, disconnect the battery again, wait the 3 minutes and if you have to check any connections do that. Once you make the connections and route the wiring through the retention clip, secure it and firmly press the airbag back into position.

Hopefully at this point you haven't blown anything up. connect the battery and start the engine. The airbag light should illuminate then go out. if it stays on, you need to verify the connections.

Congrats, you now have factory fog lights in the 2015 Genesis.

Is this the type of harness you used

Genuine OEM Fog lamp Wire Harness Set For 2015 2016+ Hyundai Genesis Sedan | eBay

Do not waste $89 on the harness. I am selling a pair of fog lightswith the wiring and a switch for only $175 plus shipping.

The owners manual states to only use fog lamps when needed . The manual says that the lights use alot of electrical power to run? Kind of odd I thought.

Job well done NavyAM84 sounds very tedious!!

Even though I had a switch wired to the lights, I always had it on with no problems.

Was it really that simple?

I used factory wiring and connected to ALL factory points. No splicing. I did have to repin the harness because, for whatever reason, it was wired in reverse, but it worked fine for me. My light act exactly hoe it would OEM from the factory.

I planned on doing this project on my Genny for a while now. Question for those who already have fogs on your Genny - do they add more brightness on the road at night or the difference it barely noticeable? I would only like to install them if they enhance the visibility right in front of the car.

I have 2015 so it did not come with white LED stripe as a DRL light, instead it was the amber turn signals. I have performed the mod using two 5 pin relay's per headlight so the bright white led DRL's are on when stalk is in OFF or AUTO (During the day) position. It goes to the dim mode when stalk is in parking lights or headlights position.

I was thinking that I could use another 5 pin relay for the fogs and connect it one of the two ways:

1st.
Connect the 5 pin relay to wire that goes into headlight connector pin 5 (reference #1 on the picture) which will only trigger the fogs when headlights are on.

2nd.
Connect the 5 pin relay to wire that goes into pin 11 (reference #2 on the picture) which will trigger the fogs when the parking lights are on (including when headlights are on too). This option would be for those who use the parking light as a DRL. It will also light up the fogs and probably look cool too.

Obviously we need to grab and add the 12v power from the fuse box to each 5 pin relay.

Let me know what your thoughts are.

Hey I just want to know how you did this "I have performed the mod using two 5 pin relay's per headlight so the bright white led DRL's are on when stalk is in OFF or AUTO (During the day) position. It goes to the dim mode when stalk is in parking lights or headlights position." or atleast can point me in the right direction please.

I used the 5 pin relay. It is in the link in my signature. You can read through it and it is all explained there. Let me know if you have any questions. I am trying to find out if these foglights actually give more light at night.

Just ordered OEM leds for my 15DH, forgot to check if there was a harness stock already in the bumper last time I pulled it :(

There is no harness at all. You just need to get creative. I soldered two wires into the fog light plug and sealed it very well. I used a 5 pin relay and connected to the headlight wires but you can just tap to a fuse that turns on with the ignition if you want them on at all times. There are many ways you can do it.

Perfect, thanks for the info :)

The new oem fogs I ordered come with the connectors and 5" of wire per plug, I was thinking maybe I'd just run a harness to a dedicated switch in the cabin then, but tapping into the fuse panel may be easier/better-or the headlight wires like you did :)
