If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi, I just joined the forum. I need some advices before buying my next car.

Im in a market for a new car. Im currently driving my slammed 1gen Acura RL daily. I love my RL, it was really reliable but it is time to get another car. I am still keeping my RL. I was looking at a 2015 Acura TLX, but over the year Acura is getting expensive and their reliability is going down hill. One day I saw a 2015-2016 genesis on the road and I instantly loving the design. I personally never experienced with Hyundai before so I don’t know how reliable are they.
My local Hyundai have a certified 2015 3.8 RWD going for 26k with 28k mileages. So I just want to know how reliable is the new 2015 genesis? What problems that I need to pay attention while test drive? Thank you.

I had a 2015 Acura TLX, SH-AWD, traded it in on my 2018 G80 Ultimate. Much prefer the G80.

I would pick the 2015 Genesis 3.8 if you want more tech(heated and cooled seats) and better handling(per Car and driver tests). The 2015 TLX is faster in a straight line than the 2015 Genesis 3.8(per Car and Driver test) but not by much; so if 0-60 mph is a factor then the TLX is the one to choose.

As far as reliability the TLX is probably the best choice for long term ownership(over 10 years) in my opinion. Honda power-trains are really reliable if maintained properly, however the Acura has timing belts which could be costly to do every 60k-90k miles. I have not seen enough high mileage(over 100k miles) Genesis 3.8 engines reviews to say if the 3.8 engine is a long lasting engine. However, if you are not going to keep a car long past 100k miles, then I would go for the Genesis 3.8 over the TLX.

Both are nice cars, but the Genesis has a more upscale presence than the Acura TLX in my opinion.

I was seriously considering a new 2015 TLX V6 when I was shopping for a new car. On paper it seemed to offer everything I was looking for.

I took each, a TLX V6 and a Genesis 3.8, out for a day of driving to get a feel for them. They were both rear-wheel drive fully loaded models. The TLX felt a lot "tighter" to me and seemed to transmit a lot more road noise into the interior. Overall the TLX seemed to feel "coarser" and less refined than the Genesis. The seats in the TLX also felt harder and less comfortable to me.

I drove a 1992 Honda Prelude for over eight years and expected the TLX to be at least as comfortable as the Prelude. To me it wasn't. The TLX was a nice car, but it just didn't feel right to me. At that time, there were also a lot of problems with the TLX transmissions on the V6 models, so that turned me off to them as well. If the transmission problems have been sorted out by way of software upgrades and you like the feel of a tight, kind of raw car, the TLX might be right for you.

Good luck in your search.

About the right price for the car. Hyundai has an excellent reputation for quality, but like every car maker, problems do come up. J traded my 2015 with 38k on it and it was trouble free. A few people (not just Hyundai) with the panoramic roof say it makes some noise. Overall, it has a solid drivetrain and it is comfortable and quiet to drive. I'm sure you will like it.

Thank for all of the responses guys. Good to know that Hyundai has good reputation for quality. I might pick up the Genesis, but it is gona take a while becuase they don’t have the color that I wanted. The reason I am steer away from the TLX is becuase of the transmission issue. Lots of TLX owners especially the V6 model are complaining about the transmission.

Yes, the transmission was not smooth, some jerking, in the lower gears, which I found annoying, althouh Acura said it did not effect operation or longevity. I got a notice saying my warranty was extented to cover an issue where coolant was getting into the oil of some TLX's. That notice and the fact the seats in the TLX were very uncomfortable for my wife, who has multiple back and hip issues, were the main reasons I traded for the G80. The seat problem was totally resolved by the G80. I see no practical issue in operation, by the slightly slower 0-60 figure on the G80.The G80 shifting is "silky smooth."
