If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis Model Type
2G Genesis Sedan (2015-2016)
I'm in process of purchasing 2015 genesis with 28k miles. I cross through the forum and carcomplaints and found out that Genesis have electrical problem (dead battery, no start etc...) I just want to know if these are really big deal with current genesis?
thank you

There have been some members here with faulty battery issues which were replaced under warranty. Others have had issues with the battery connectors themselves not tightening properly on the posts and having to be replaced. No such issues with mine since new. Awesome car IMHO.

You might want to make sure it has the updated nav software (allowing carplay) and 2 keys fobs. Those were 2 things I overlooked when I bought my Genesis.

Thank you for your input. I check some thread that some still have issues with battery replace every year or so. How many miles on your genesis?

The one I look at have 2 key and already update map. But somehow battery was dead when I come over to test drive it make me little skeptical from buying it

Well, just put in another CR2032 battery and you’re done! (More important is whether the tires and brakes are good. A complete set of new tires on my 5.0 goes for at least $1400 installed.)

Hi Tuanhuy, imo the dead battery should not be enough to scare you away. Tell them to put in a new battery or no deal.

The larger issue would be to run a Carfax (at a minimum) and get the details, i.e. the number of owners, no accidents or prior damage, etc. There should be some remaining warranty if you are 2nd/3rd owner up to 5/60, and these are the things to verify so you are covered for these types of anomalies.
Otherwise, you'd be wise to look into an extended warranty - many threads exist here relating to that discussion. Just my .02.

no carfax issues or accident at all. It still have remaining warranty for 11 months. Dealer already replace it wit new battery and it was able to start again. I'm just not sure if it's permanent fix or battery might have drain again at some point

It's a 4+ year old battery. Not uncommon for batteries to die at about that time. Just check that they put in the proper battery, not some cheapo.

60,000 Km (or about 40,000 miles) so far. The only issue so far was a failure of the AWD differential which was covered under warranty. It didn't ever leave me on the side of the road; it would just surge during acceleration so I knew there was something wrong. It's been good ever since.

As Ed said, the battery was old and needed replacing. This should be fine now. But, as with any 4yo car, you will have things eventually requiring repair, so just be sure to have coverage for when your 11 months is up.

You didn't state if this is a base model or an Ultimate? The more toys, the more potential future problems. That being said, the Genesis is a fine vehicle and most of us here love ours and have found them to be quite reliable.

it is base model without big pano sunroof or blind spot etc so I dont need to worry about all that :D

I have a 2015 tech 3.8 rwd. 37k miles. Only issue I ever had was a loose rear view and left side mirror. Dealer comped it. Love this car.
Check to see if the tires were replaced under the Hyundai recall.

New tires were installed by dealer prior to sale so I am ok with that.
I'm not sure if I can expect it same reliable as Toyota/Lexus/Infiniti/Honda? this is the first Korean car I ever purchase

Since you are buying the base 3.8 model, mechanics should present no problems and reliability should be comparable to that list, based on the judgment of the last 11 years or so observations of 3.8 problems per owner.
Good luck.

Good luck finding a comparable vehicle from one of those manufacturers for that price. You have to factor that into the equation.

My battery died on my 2015 5.0 Tech package, yesterday. Having some other random electrical problems that the dealer is looking at. I didn't buy the extended warranty when I had a chance (i.e., when it wasn't super-expensive). Not regretting that one...yet...

I agree with you that for the money I can buy smaller class (Q50, Bmw 3, audi a4) of other manufacture compare to Hyundai.
I look at Genesis for many factors since it look super handsome and I'm impressed since the first look and for the money it compare to mid size luxury sedan out there

I dont think there are any concern about mechanic issue of genesis except some electrical issues but I'm hoping it all good, I have 7 days to test and decide or so.
