  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I can definitely take more recordings/videos if needed. I'm pretty confident that it is coming from right under where the driver sits.

Info: Seems to originate from front Driver's Side, but I believe it is behind the engine/not the engine. It persists in Park, Drive, Reverse, Neutral, and is noticeable up to about 20 mph before it either disappears or the wind noise is louder. The rattling does occur at the same frequency as the RPM, so if I get it up to 2000 RPM it will rattle faster and faster. The rattling continues even after the car has been warmed up (be it minutes or hours of driving later). I have tried searching the forum, as well as the subreddit, and it doesn't seem like anybody else has had a comparable issue.

Background: Car has been making this sound for awhile now, but it doesn't seem to have gotten any louder in the last few thousand miles. Dealership wanted $250 to take it on a "Diagnostic Drive" even though this video is at idle, in park. After doing an oil change, they "could not replicate the issue". Currently at 51k miles. All work has been done by dealerships, it is a CPO but by the "could not replicate the issue" I'm not feeling incredibly trustworthy of the dealership's ability to diagnose the issue.

Potentially related: They also did not notice this problem, however it would've required driving it: Clicking Noise between 25-30ml on the road. . I don't think that this is part of the issue, no one else seems to mention both the flutter and the rattle, but figured I'd include it.

Thanks for takin' the time, let me know what you think it is. If you have any questions I'll be on the lookout as long as the thread is active. I'm due for an oil change in about a thousand miles, which I'll have done at the dealership, but it'd be nice to walk in there with some suggestions so they don't just hit me with the "can't replicate" bullshit again.

Update: After taking it to a different dealership (one that didn't try to charge me for a diagnostic drive), I displayed the issue to them (as well as the 25-35mph issue). While they were doing my oil change they took a few more of the bottom panels off of the car and found that a heatshield was barely hanging on. They replaced those bolts and while the sort of tin-can-rattle sound is gone, it does still make a louder sound while idling. I then asked them to check it out still making sounds, and they said that "sounded normal".

How something can be rattling that loud and be "normal" is beyond me, and overall I'm still pretty unsatisfied with the whole thing. They also claimed that this had fixed the 25-35mph issue and lo and behold, it's back to making those sounds again monday morning.

I'll probably keep updating this as I get further along but I'm not sure what else to tell the dealership at this point.

Update 2: Dealership has determined that this sound is normal. Two problems with this. One, it didn't make that sound when I bought it.

Two, my dad is a mechanic, I'm a mechanical engineer, and we both love cars, so I knew that the sound being "normal" was a load of horse shit.

In the end, I basically couldn't get them to actually pursue trying to repair it. This is what the service manager actually told me:

"We've put the car up to operating temperature and put on the air lift while idling and the noises my tech are hearing while even under the vehicle with it in gear and the tires spinning he's telling me are normal. We've watched the impeller shaft spin without wobbling or clunking. "

A few other people on other forums informed me that they had similar problems with their car, but similarly couldn't get the dealership to figure it out, so it looks like I'm just SOL for now. I'm planning on taking it to a different dealership next time around just to see if they have better abilities.

I honestly don't hear anything rattling. My Genesis sounds same and that is normal as I hear all other Genesis cars sound the same.

I agree with kocyk123, I don't hear anything, just the normal idle sound of the injectors pulsing. Direct injection engines do make more sound (a friend's Lexus is even louder), not sure if that is the sound you are hearing.

This is years after your post however I've been experiencing the same in my 2015. They thought it was the undercar shield? But tightening that did not fix the problem. I will ask service to have the mechanic drive my car to experience the noise which sounds like something flapping in the wind from 0-25mph. Thanks for your post.

It just sounds normal.

I have the same issue with my 2015 5.0. Between 25 and 35mph, if I let it coast...it sounds like something flapping under the car or something...Been trying to figure out what it is.

Same issue for my 2015 5.0. Luckily, the rattle doesn't increase with engine speed and is consistent no matter what gear you're in. I just blast to 40+mph so that I don't have to hear it LOL.
