  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Does anyone know how to remove the aigbag? I tried but its not as easy as the 1st generation airbag. I want to swap my airbag to the g80 airbag. Please advise.

Oh, i would call that inadvisable at best. Why do you want to do this? (In some states, unless this is done by a certified technician, it's a very bad thing.)

I have the service manual for your car. If you would like a copy email or PM me.

The new wings on G80 are slightly different than on '15-16

So, it's not the thing that explodes to save your life in a collision--it's just the emblem on the plastic cover over the thing that explodes to save your life. The airbag police have been called off.

OK.....took me several hours to finally remove mine. The easy part is the small hole at the bottom which will release the lower latches. Now you'll need a small rod (like a coat hanger but stronger) to insert into the upper oval (not round) slots in the rear. You have to press and wiggle to get the latches to release while pulling on the bag. This part took me several hours to finally figure out, but now you can do it possibly in 5 minutes. The factory manual was no help either and neither was youtube. A small dental type mirror is needed and disconnect the battery an hour before starting.

Ok great. I purchased the new g80 airbag on ebay from korea. Oem. I will take your advice. Thank you!

Can you take pictures of the holes that need to be pushed in? In order for the airbag to release? I only see the bottom one. Where are the ones in the back?

Take a mirror to show the back of the steering wheel and you will see many holes. You might need to remove the upper and lower steering wheel shroud. I took off a lot more stuff then actually needed to remove the bag. The upper part of the steering wheels has many round slots. There are 2 oval slots about the 11 and 2 o'clock positions. These are the 2 holes to place the rod needed to push back the spring loaded latches.

Maybe consider hiring out the job? Somebody used to removing airbags could do this very fast.

And to think my neighbor and wife thought I was crazy to replace the hood and trunk wings with the new ones :-)

I would STRONGLY caution against doing this, especially for cosmetic reasons. You are dealing with an explosive device here and not one to be mishandled. Yes it can be done safely, but there are many ways that the airbag can be triggered. I have removed airbags in older vehicles (for non-cosmetic reasons) and one common element is that after disconnecting the vehicle battery (#1 stage) you need to leave the car alone for 15-20 mins. to allow the Airbag Controller to fully discharge its capacitors, before attempting any work on the airbag itself. The airbag controller should also be disconnected before working on the steering wheel airbag itself. You should also wear a grounded anti-static wrist band to avoid any static electricity from triggering the airbag during handling. Everyone to their own, but this seems like a lot of expense and risk for a slightly modified badge change.

So i finally figured out how to remove the airbag from a youtube tutorial. When i went to connect the airbag to the oem wire connectors they did not fit. So returning g80 airbag and keeping my 2015 oem airbag.
