  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

2015 Genesis Sedan emissions not ready after dead battery

Well, the one scenario I didn't envision is that they'd forget I exist entirely! After a week I even called them back again, and then again, and then another week went by. Finally I called them again, and told the service manager, "Look, I'm fine driving your 6000-mile loaner G80 for as long as you want, but I'm writing down the date and who I'm talking to, and I'm not going to keep chasing you guys. If you want me to drive your car until the fall, I won't complain, but don't act upset if you remember I've had your car for three months when you call!"

The guy said, sure, sure, that's totally reasonable, we should have gotten in touch. He said for sure the general manager would call me the next day.

That was a week ago. I figure at this rate I might be able to wait 'em out until the next-gen G80 hits the lots... ;)

It's been another week, and... they called up to tell me they fixed it! Another tech looked at it, dug around, and found a loose connector on the back of the fuse box. With the connector fixed and the car driven, it readied up and passed inspection.

In the midst of this they also changed the oil and the battery; since they didn't ask me about the battery before changing it they offered to pay for half the battery and no charge for the oil change, inspection, diagnosis time, or fixing the connector. Considering I got two months and a couple thousand free miles out of their loaner I'm gonna call this a win.

But I'm still going to double-check the emissions ready status after I pick it up. ;)

Now if only I could get the next-gen G80 in a flavor I want for less than sixty grand...

Uh oh, guys! It's been almost a year, and when getting new shoes put on my ride I decided to have the tire guys do the NYS inspection, you know, just in case.

Does anyone want to guess what happened? I'll tell you what happened! Emissions not ready. Just like before.

The question is, what's going on here? Maybe that connector failed again. That doesn't seem too likely. Maybe something else spontaneously died that causes the exact same symptoms. That also doesn't seem too likely. Maybe the dealer decided they didn't want to buy back the car after all, shut their eyes, and put the sticker on, and it never actually passed. I'm not sure if a dealer could pull that off with the way the whole thing works (the testers jump on the OBD so they should be pretty foolproof, and one presumes if they didn't actually inspect it and just put the sticker on that NYS would have come for my head, and shortly thereafter for the dealer's). But man, I don't have many other good ideas.

Any of you guys have any? Part of me is looking forward to this, and part of me is like, "I just bought new tires. God damnit."
