2015 genisis sedan 3.8l oil light issue

Hi Billy, what year and mileage is your Genesis at? Your light would only come on when stopped/idleing? How long did you notice this issue before taking it in?

What sort of extended warranty did you have that covered this expense? Did the factory extend the warranty automatically or did you just buy a supplemental one?

Had the same issue with oil pressure light turning on when car was stopped. Took it to dealer and had the oil pressure sensor replaced under extended warranty (not covered by 10y/100k powertrain). I believe they billed parts/labor for around ~$800. It's not a fun job as the air intake / manifold have to come off, sensor is recessed in the top of the block and difficult to access:

The new sensor worked for a few days, but the light started coming off and on again, eventually just staying on and kicking on the check engine light too (which is not what you want to see with an oil pressure light lol). The code PO522 was for the OPS sending too low of voltage. Dealership managed to get me in and take the engine apart again, much to their confusion the new pressure sensor was faulty, apparently they've replaced a lot of them as it's a common issue, but first time they had a dud.

2016 3.8 and I think around 68,000 miles at the time. The light started coming on occasionally when the car came to a stop, and went away when accelerating again. After finding another thread about the issue I felt comfortable enough driving it for a week or so (while I would not recommend driving with oil pressure light on if you can help it, the symptoms checked out it was only the sensor, car ran smoothly, and I had places to be 😅)

The dealership sold me a separate Platinum warranty for like $1,800 extra when buying the car, "exclusionary" coverage so covers most anything that isn't a wear-and-tear item.

I’m having the same issue, my oil light is off and on. How much does it cost to replace the switch
Hyundai quoted me $500, but I`m going to do myself and just take my time in there

My light just came on today , then it turned off. Went to a store and it came on again . I have 70,345 miles and I have oil changes every 3500 miles. 2017 G80 Genesis

Just started having the same issue with my 2015 Genesis Sedan 3.8.

The oil light comes on when idling and turns off after giving gas.

Took it to the dealership today.... They did in fact say that it is the oil pressure switch. There were three other Genesis in the shop. One 2016, one 2018, and another 2017 for the same issue.
It happened right after my latest oil change... as someone else mentioned. It might be something with the new oil or the colder weather. I have no idea.
At any rate, this is an issue reoccurring with this vehicle. Now for the fun part, the price. I was quoted today $2,443 USD to replace the $40 part due to labor.
Interestingly enough after the person, slightly took it apart and put back my vehicle to see what the issue was, the light stayed off and has not turned back on for the entire 25 min drive home, with stops during the way.
Sadly I think I am ready to sell this to another dealership that offered me $19k for it, while the light is off, and purchase a new vehicle.

That is a lot of labor. If it was me, I see two options. Continue driving. I had a car years ago that did the same thing. Drove it 5 years and about 60,000 miles after buying used.

Option 2 is what you are considering. Trade it in with the light off.

Third option is to find an independent mechanic that will change the sending unit at a reasonable price.
Forth option is replace it yourself (need to be ready for a lot of work though).

Damn. You got to remove the upper and lower intake manifolds just to change an oil pressure sensor. I agree with the tech in the video that is too much effort for an oil pressure sensor. Most are easily accessible on an
I do not know where you got your information about the Lexus 460 starter reliability, but from my research the 2013 and newer models are fairly reliable pass the 100k mile mark. The ABS units seem to the biggest issue on those cars since it cost nearly $5000 to replace; hence why I decided not to buy a used LS460 years ago. However, every car has it issues that makes owning them a pain; Lexus is no different. Replacing the starter on a Lexus V8 is nearly the same process as changing an oil pressure sensor on the Genesis. I would never ever consider buying a used BMW due to amount of work one of those will need by 100k miles.

It still does not change the fact that the Genesis 3.8 models has a defective oil pressure sensor located in the very hard to access valley of the engine that is a very common issue on these cars out of warranty. Not good.
"2017+ under-body covers with oil filter/drain plug access hatches(part#29110-B1210 front cover and 29140-B1210 rear cover"
I wonder if that would fit a 3.8, they look very similar..... how handy would that be??!!

The newer 5.0 body under covers with hatches are handy indeed for quick oil changes. The older covers are not heavy, but it does take some time to remove them due to all the bolts and push pins. The newer covers are much quicker to have for frequent oil changes like I perform every 4k miles.

I wish Hyundai just move the oil pressure sensor in a easy access location(3.8) or a more solid location(5.0).

I am having this problem too. My car is a 2015 3.8 Genesis AWD. Only has 88K miles. The oil pressure light comes on intermittently in all driving conditions - cold days, warm days, side street stop-and-go driving, and 85mph consistent highway driving. It comes on and off for no apparent reason. CAN SOMEONE PLEASE EXPLAIN WHY THIS IS NOT COVERED UNDER THE 10-YEAR/100K MILE WARRANTY? IT'S A SAFETY TRIGGER THAT IS PART OF THE ENGINE THAT PREVENTS THE ENGINE FROM SELF-DESTRUCTING. IT'S NOT A CONSUMABLE ITEM LIKE A BELT OR A LIGHTBULB THAT IS EXPECTED TO WEAR OUT, AND, IT'S SO BURIED INSIDE THE DEEP BOWELS OF THE ENGINE FURTHER PROVING THAT NOBODY EXPECTED IT TO BE REPLACED REGULARLY, IF AT ALL. I took my car to the dealership, they didn't even bother to test the oil pressure to make SURE that wasn't the problem.... they want to charge me $1,300 to replace it, even though they aren't certain that this is the actual problem, so if the light comes on again, I don't get a refund on that money. I asked, "how many guesses do I have to pay you for before you get it right?" The reason I buy Hyundais/Genesis is for the excellent warranty, but my experience is that dealers won't honor it. And if that's the case, I'll never buy another one, and I'll be sure to tell everyone I know not to buy one, and I'll probably contact a bunch of folks over at Hyundai corporate and let them know that their warranty is bullshit. Any and all comments are welcomed. I even spoke to an independent mechanic to get a second opinion, he confirmed it's at least 3-4 hours of work.... but he said he doesn't understand why it would not be honored as warranty work. I love my genesis but now am starting to have a bitter taste over this whole thing. And, the dealership wants to sell me another $4K worth of stuff (oil change, despite I just had one, tire rotation, despite I just had one, among other things...... I'm really kind of disgusted.

It is not inside the engine. It is on the outside, under the intake manifold. There are plenty of cars that require just as much work to get to the spark plugs to change them, so your theory fails there.
If you can design a car where every part that might ever fail (that's all of them) is easy to get to and change without having to remove a lot of other stuff, please, please do so.

(I do not disagree that the right thing for Hyundai to do would be a good will replacement of this part with a high failure rate, but they have no legal requirement to do so.)

according to my husband, most oil pressure gauges are on a block near the oil pump I think he said, he and my mechanic are baffled as to why the engineers at Hyundai would design the pressure gauge to be where it is in this car.

I suspect that his "most" comes from most of the cars that he has seen. I'd bet that he's seen only a small percentage of the engine designs that have been used and are still in use...

Lol. Let me rephrase this - we, (my husband and myself) as well as my regular mechanic who works on all makes and models of cars, think it's a really stupid location for the oil pressure sensor. Especially if anyone at hyundai is going to suggest that it requires replacement from time to time.

Well, Hyundai is not the only company to put oil sensors under or behind an intake manifold. My old Cadillac Escalade 6.0 V8 engine oil sensor was located on the back of the engine just behind the intake manifold which mean removing the intake manifold unless you try to do the repair by "feel" only by reaching blindly behind the engine with one hand.

However, most oil sensors are fairly easy to reach on an engine as a rule.

Just a heads up, when my husband changed my sensor he took some time to clean the valves out too, if you are going that far, might as well!

So after my car warms up, everything sounds fine and runs well. When I come to a complete stop, my red oil light comes on and goes off when I drive. I decided to get a code reader to see what is causing the light to come on. The code reader gave me p0116 which has to do with the engine coolant temperature circuit/range. Anyone else experience this??
Yes I am in my genesis, but the place here seems to not find any issues. Stayed in shop for days. I give up!! Did you ever get it fix or whats the outcome

Hey, I’ve got a 2015 Genesis 3.8 and have the same problem. I changed my oil recently and still get the oil light come on. Comes on when I slow down or stop and goes away with throttle/acceleration. I was told by my mechanic that it is probably the oil sending unit.

Can you tell me the correct part number? I see ranges anything from like $15 to $200. Something is off lol. Asking for the oil sending unit/ sensor in particular.
