  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

2015 Hyundai Genesis 5.0 lower front timing cover replacement

Yeah - the transmissions seem none too durable... I see a lot of posts around of even the newer models having them replaced outright @ low miles.

Can't go wrong with a Lexus. Don't know if I'd do Volvo S90 - I've heard that turbo / supercharged 4 cyl. can be pretty problematic but they sure do look good, inside & out.
I read about the older(pre-2017) turbo units, but the newer(2019+) Volvo turbo/supercharger units do not have much information about them. I will be getting a low mileage CPO Volvo S90 Inscription with 5 year unlimited mileage warranty; so I may take the chance. I did find a site that sells nothing but Volvo parts (IPD) and it does have DIY repair/maintenance information even for the newer S90.

The newer S90 does fit my style of car so it may be my next ride.:)

I think for the newer ones that they ditched the supercharger - too much complexity, I guess. But with a 5yr warranty, I suppose that you can't go wrong... They are nice for sure. The S90 wagons are really cool looking but they were special order only and a true unicorn for certain.

The loaded out S90 I am looking at buying only has about 30k miles and the CPO 5 year unlimited mile warranty, so I would be fine buying it. The small engine in the large engine bay also make it pretty easy to work on. My main concern about the Volvo will be the extra hoses and fittings for the turbo/supercharger that can leak over time after the 5 year warranty is over(about 80k-90k miles for my commutes).

The rest of the usual replacement parts are pretty cheap to buy, except for the electric water pump which is expensive($400). However, the electric water pump has a lifespan of about 150k miles. The other issue is that the engine has a timing belt which need changing every 100k miles or so. I will probably end trading the car by 100k miles anyway; so I may not even have to deal with those issues.

Well, I may just go with a loaded used 2020 Alfa Romeo Giulia Ti with the performance pack that includes an LSD rear end. I have been doing some major research on the car and it seems pretty solid. I also looked on Ebay and the site has many used low mileage 2.0T engines from wrecks that sell for about $2000 on average; so no big demand on the engine which means they are not failing often. The engine is pretty easy to work on as well since it is a longitude mounted 4 cylinder with easy access to the turbo.

The only issues seems to be mainly annoying relay and coolant pipe problems on the early 2017 models, but the 2020 model seem to have been sorted out.

I just have to clean and get my Genesis emission tested(it sat for over year) so that I can start my offical car shopping to trade it in. It looks like I may go with the Giulia Ti as my first choice. I can also get my oil(odd 0w-30) and filter from my local Dodge/Jeep dealership since a version of the 2.0T engine is used in the Jeep Wrangle turbo. Fiat owns both companies and use the similar 2.0T in both models.

Good to know!

In my research on the Giulia, I've found that it's critical that you are able to view the original sticker to make sure that you are getting the full sport package w/ LSD. Seeing visual cues like the paddle shifters & 5 hole wheels aren't guaranteed to be indicators of the full package. I've seen that the paddles, wheels and the sports seats can be standalone options without getting the desired mechanical bits.

The aftermarket has addressed the coolant pipe issue with billet replacements - the originals were literately made with recycled plastic. They've also come up with ways to disable the start/stop system & with a little effort & a laptop w/ multiecusan software and the appropriate console switch from a QF you can enable race mode, that will disable all traction/stability control if you feel like running an autocross sometime.... Short version - the aftermarket is pretty robust for these things, which follows as they are pretty popular on the continent.

Good information. The dealer sticker is usually located on the Carfax for the Alfa models I have checked out so far. The TI I want must include the Harmon Kardon premium sound system and the sport package with LSD and I found one that ticked all the boxes on the sticker.

The only issue I found is that you have to know part numbers(from part catalogs or service manual) to order replacement parts from the Mopar website in the U.S. Many other online part sites are based in Europe.

However, more of the popular replacement parts(coolant lines, relays, and hoses) can be found pretty easy on the various tuner websites.

Heck, we may both meet up again in the Alfa forums.:)

Here is the sticker for the one I may try to buy. It has about 65k miles and is only $26k. However, no warranty so I will be stuck with any repairs on my own; hence the extensive research before I pull the trigger. However, compared to the work needed to work on the very large TAU 5.0 V8. Repairing or swapping the smaller Giulia 2.0T engine will be child's play if the parts are available.

Yeah - Carfax is where I started to realize the deal about the mixing & matching of options... Looks like a good one, curious that it doesn't have the 5 hole/QF style wheels on it or the sports seats (optional - the regular ones are a bit flat). Most of the 2020's that I've seen still have a little factory warranty left. Guess it's the miles. These guys seem to be a good source of parts - Alfissimo International

Might just see you around in those forums! PM some pics.

The Giulia does have many wheel choices. I assume that the owner choose those type of wheels with the Nero black package on the car I want. It looks good in the pictures.

I think I may pull the trigger on one if I like the test drive; so I may see you on the Alfa forums.:)

I will be giving up a few feature like HUD and cooled seats that my Genesis have, but I really never used those features. The HUD is useless when I wear my polarized sunglasses and the cooled seats get used only for about a minute on the hot days before it make me feel like I pissed in my pants and then I turn it off. The Giulia has one feature that I really want; a heated steering wheel that my loaded Genesis do not have.

The mileage on the car is higher than I like, but if the engine runs strong than it had a good life with proper oil changes. I trust a good running high mileage engine with no leaks over a low mileage engine that may have sat over a year without a proper oil change or was only driven short duration any day. Plus, the 2.0T engine seems very easy to repair or replace so it should be a good deal for the price of about $15k with my Genesis as trade.

Know what you mean about the HUD - Kinda drives me nuts.... My wife's KIA Soul even has a heated steering wheel & her seat coolers work better as well. I've seen a couple of Giulias on CARFAX that have cracked 100k, so there's hope that they have some longevity - I can't imagine the ZF trans ever exploding.

Seems like that Alfa was built to order - if you ever want to change up the wheels, Tire Rack has some dead ringers for the QF rims.

I've gotta get creative on my financing - still owe about a year on the Genesis. Would rather not attach that residual to my payment....

I actually like the style of wheels that is on that Giulia I am looking to buy. I would have picked that style as well. However, I wished the previous owner got the sport seats, but they got everything else I would want on that car so I can live with it.

I just had my Genesis towed to the emission test center and it passed.:)

Now I just have to wait for my current tag sticker to arrive and drive this car to the dealer lots and go car shopping.

I give the Genesis a thumbs up about being emission test friendly. Even though the battery was out of my car for a year, it did not require an "drive cycle" to pass an emission test like most other makes that require the car be driven for about 100 miles after the removing the battery to clear the ECU memory to become emission test ready; which would have made things very complicated if it did need a "drive cycle" since my car has an expired tag.

Good news!

There seem to be quite a few of them around - there are here in Houston anyway. Could just wait until one comes up the way you want it. The 1st Giulia that I drove had the stock seats, the others were sports - had a lot more support in the lower back.

Well, I may actually stick with the Genesis brand. A new contender just hit my list. A slightly used(15k miles) 2023 G70 3.3T fully loaded for just over $40k just came up for sale. It is CPO model with 10year/100k mile power-train warranty and 5 year/75k mile bumper-to-bumper coverage. Basically a new fully loaded G70 3.3T for a big discount. It was probably a demo model.

With my trade it would be about a $30k newish G70 3.3T.:)

Either one would be an interesting ride, I'm sure.

True.

The Alfa would the cheaper option with no warranty coverage, but the G70 will have the best warranty coverage all the way to 2033.

I am lending more to the G70 as both are fun stylish cars to drive, with the G70 have more power and features.

I'll have to get some seat time in a G70 V6 - Hard to find them in the proper spec in my area though.

i say go with the g70 lol too bad we didnt get the shooting brake.

Yeah - The G70 Shooting Brake w/ the V6 TT would've been great. It's not a big ol tub like the GV70...
