  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hey folks hope someone else can help me out here, I have a 2015 sedan in pearl white where the paint is pealing off. I wanted to know if anyone else on here has had this issue. My car only has 8,3xx miles on it.

thank you for your help,

Jason

A lot of times when someone reports that their bumper paint is failing, the plastic bumper cover was replaced and painted by a body shop (the bumper covers only come in black plastic, and they all have to be painted). Some body shops do not do a good job compared to the factory paint job (such as not using an epoxy clear coat).

I don't know if you purchased new or used, but even new, sometimes the bumpers get scratched in transit or on the dealer lot, and the plastic bumper cover needs to be repaired or replaced and repainted before they are sold.

Also, be very careful with high pressure auto washers, and keep the spray wand at least a couple of feet away from the paint. Don't try and remove bugs or stubborn dirt using high pressure wash, and instead use a clean and soapy microfiber towel. I had that happen to the tow cover (a small plastic piece that covers where the tow bolt gets screwed into the bumper). The paint came off one time when I was using a high pressure wand washer at a self service car wash. Later, I noticed from looking at my car's history on a Hyundai computer system that the tow cover was missing at port of entry and had to be replaced once the car arrived in the USA. The paint job on the tow cover by the importer at port of entry was obviously not as durable as the rest of the bumper.

Warranty Claim maybe.

That happened on my 2012 genesis as well it was a rental fleet car so I assume the front end has seen a fair share of abuse.

No issues with mine. Did you purchase as a new vehicle from the dealer?

Jason, get it into the dealership pronto if its still under warranty. This is a massive problem with the pearl white, its call delamination and the clear coat is coming off after extended time in the sun. Its almost like either there was not enough adherence in the chemicals to keep it on or that it was not laid on thick enough to handle the heat of the sun. Google all things related to "Hyundai paint peeling", "Hyundai pearl white bumpers peeling" and you will see many Hyundai owners of all models with the pearl white peeling. If you wait until warranty is up, 36,000 miles or 3 years, they will tell you its rock chips. Eventually both your front and back bumpers will have most of the clear coat gone. It starts with some flat white spots and then you will start to see some yellow ones that turn orange before they go flat bright white. Look around in parking lots at Hyundai vehicles that are pearl white and see the degradation happening.

When I had my bumper replaced, the body shop told me not to wash the bumper for a month so the epoxy clear coat can fully cure.

Just started noticing this on my BLK 2015 Genesis 5.0. My front bumper probably was chipped by a rock and after going through the car wash, noticed my paint had peeled back. Feeling pissed by it
