I've been searching something I thought would be a little easier but I am having a hard time finding.

Currently I have a 2012 Genesis 4.6 but I'm looking at the 2015 Genesis 3.8 and 5.0 models. My first thought was going with the 5.0 but I am having a hard time finding one in the auto for sale sites that is within 150 miles of my me even though I live in a suburb or Pittsburgh which is a fairly populated area. So my 2nd thought is I don't really have problem with going with the 3.8 as long as I understand the options and the differences or what I'll be losing (or possibly gaining) by going with the 3.8

Though I realize that unless I'm mistaken the 3.8 has the standard then the signature, tech and ultimate packages and I can see in writing what each package adds but I'm having a hard time finding the nitty-gritties of the differences between them and then between them and the 5.0 models. I've read somethings that seems to throw me off more. For instance did I read that navigation screen sizes vary by model and package? Same as tire size.

Trying to do a comparison reading the dealer ads does not help. They never list the package . They'll list options but that doesn't clarify it really because some list of options are worded more generic than others.

Anything you can tell me or any direction you can point me in would be helpful. I also would like to hear your opinions on going with the 5.0 or 3.8

One more thing. Right now my 4.6 is black with tan interior. I want to change it up somewhat. I'm thinking one of two color combo's. White with black interior or Black with black interior. What would your vote be?

Thank you

Check out the 2nd to last page of the '16 Genesis brochure - it's got all the info you need, and very little changed between '15 and '16:

http://www.auto-brochures.com/makes/Hyundai/Genesis/Hyundai_US Genesis_2016.pdf

The '16s got foglights on Signature and above packages, whereas only the 5.0 got them in '15; the base 5.0 is not offered in '16; and the continuous dampening suspension was dropped in '16.

For some reason all the '15 brochure pdf's I found are missing the options and packages page; someone at corporate apparently got careless with copying the '15 brochure, and a bunch of other sites then copied that one.

I have a 3.8 Ultimate, which I chose over the 5.0 for the gas milage, but I think I would get the V8 Ultimate if I had it to do over again.

I only drive 10k miles per year, so the additional money spent on gas is negligible, and the additional horses and continuous dampening suspension are tempting.

Color choice is, of course, subjective, but IMHO, white is too vanilla and way too common, and black looks great but is too hard to keep clean and micro-swirl free.

The car really pops in Monticito Blue with an ivory interior (or in Pamplona Red w/ gray, but I'm biased).

To find the car you want you may need to travel. Good hunting!

As for the comment on white cars, I know they're very popular on this site, and I don't want to step on any toes (too hard), but dayum there's a lot of white vehicles in America today.

Just last week a friend and I rode the Natchez Trace from Nashville TN to Natchez Mississippi on motorcycles, and, to avoid "performance awards", we had our eyes peeled for federal Parkway cops in white SUVs, sedans, and pickups.

Every time I rounded a bend and saw a white vehicle approaching, I slowed down, and realized I was slowing down an awful lot.

I started counting white vehicles out of a total number of cars, trucks, and SUVs in clusters I passed, and came to the conclusion that at least 60% of the vehicles we passed were white.

On one stretch I counted 13 white vehicles out of 16 total! That's 81%!

Just sayin'

Mark - yeah, I realized that after I posted it, so I edited my comment. See above.

Looks line nation wide it is about 22% but in the south the percentage is much higher. Makes sense that it would be cooler in the sun.
Car colour popularity - Wikipedia

I was looking yesterday and saw groups of white cars together too and I was coming north from Florida. Looked like caravans running together.

When I was buying cheap used cars many years ago I had a run of 5 white cars in a row. Now my wife won't let me buy one.

Saw this from Forbes too:
For a second consecutive year, white is the most popular color for new cars, according to the 2012 DuPont Automotive Color Popularity Report. Black, silver, gray and red round out the top five.
“White especially has been a constant top runner since really 1998,” says Nancy Lockhart, DuPont color marketing manager. “Silver had its reign from 2001 to 2006 as being the leading color and now black has come up as being the leading color in certain segments, especially luxury.”
Both black and white are seen as denoting status, luxury and quality, she says.

I see you posted the 2016 USA brochure. Unfortunately, they made changes to the 2016 5.0 trim levels in USA as follows:
  • In 2015, the 5.0 had two trim levels, Base and Ultimate. The Base 5.0 did not have the electronically adjustable suspension. I don't recall all the other differences between Base and Ultimate on the 5.0, but I think there were some.
  • In 2016, only the Ultimate Trim Level exists on the 5.0, but without the electronic adjustable suspension on the 2015 5.0.
  • Even though there was a 5.0 for 2016 in the USA, they only made a few and stopped making them (for USA) early in the model year.

I happen to have kept my 2015 brochure and I'm looking at it now.
The 2015 Genesis 5.0 Standard (Base) equipment included

KEY STANDARD EQUIPMENT:
Genesis 3.8 Tech Package plus:
+ 420 HP, 5.0L Gasoline Direct Injection V8 engine with Dual Continuously Variable Valve Timing
+ Genuine matte finish wood trim and aluminum trim
+ LED fog lights
+ Illuminated door sill plates
+ 19" alloy wheel with P245/40R19 (front) 275/35R19 (rear) tires
+ Quad exhaust tips

ULTIMATE PACKAGE
Genesis 5.0 Standard Equipment plus:
+ Continuous Damping Control suspension
+ Heads-display
+ Premium Driver Information System navigation with 9.2" HD Display
+ Dual-mode vent control with CO2 sensor
+ Lexicon® 17-speaker Discrete Logic 7® Surround Sound Audio System
+ Power trunk lid

My note: The Genesis 3.8 RWD Ultimate Package is basically the same as the 5.0 Ultimate minus the Continuous Damping Control suspension.

Hope that helps.

Wow, thank you for all the great responses. That tech stuff should really help.

I know what you guys mean about white cars. They are all over the place. I’ve never had a white car. I think one of the reasons I was thinking of it is because I hear white is a lot easier to keep looking clean than my black. My black looks dirty the day after its waxed. Waz, when I first saw the 2015 model at a dealer it was the Montecito Blue and you’re right it did look great. Also a question, why if you did it all over would you go with the 5.0?

What exactly does a continuous dampening control suspension do over the other?

Is it as hard for you as it is for me to find Genesis in your area? Don't get me wrong I like the idea they are on the rarer side but am I looking the wrong places or is this a bad time of year maybe?

Seems to be somewhat regional. I can go weeks in my corner of the state and not see one. In one week in Florida I saw more than in 6 months here.

Here in Arizona owning a black automobile is one step away from an oven in our summer heat, and white while practical is just boring ,though the pearl white is pretty and can be Luxurious looking.
While I would have preferred the Empire Grey wife and I found our 16’ Ibiza Blue Genesis Ultimate on the showroom floor of our local Hyundai dealer to be just stunning. And though we seen a few Gennys out and about not one in our color choice.....so far so!

I think I would go with the 5.0 for several reasons:

1) gas is fairly cheap, and has been for a number of years, and with improved extraction technology, it looks like it will continue to be cheap for a while. And since I drive the car less than 10k miles per year, I really wouldn't be spending that much in gas over the 3.8 (unless I had my foot buried in the carpet constantly).

2) the V8 is just soooooo smooth

3) I like the quad exhaust tips better than the trapezoids

For me, the CDC isn't all, that important since I don't drive like the Dukes of Hazzard on a regular basis.

"CDC is an electronic damping system that noticeably increases driving safety, comfort, and dynamics by adjusting damping forces optimally for each individual wheel."

Check it:
Continuous Damping Control - Wikipedia

Right now should be a good time to find '15s since people w/ 3 year leases are turning them in. You may have to travel a bit, but availability should increase during the summer as those leases are turned in.

Down here in Texas, the 5.0 is my choice hands down. However, you're in PA. Ya get snow. I'd look for a 3.8 HTRAC.

With the ultimate, you get the heads up display. A nice feature, but it's all redundant info. If you go a trim level lower, you get Apple Car Play/Android Auto. You give those up with the ultimate. Makes no sense, but that's the way Hyundai did it.

Android auto was released in March of 2015. Car Play was available earlier. Given the development time for an auto, the Ultimate head unit it had to be finalized before AA was available and, unfortunately, was not compatible. Car play did not become widely available until 2016 models though some did have it earlier, including Hyundai. IITC, you had to do an upgrade on the other versions to use either CP or AA.

I was looking at a 2015-2016 Tech Package due to the ability to add CP or AA connectivity. I found a 2015 Ultimate at a great price and decided to go with the 9.2" DIS instead of the CP or AA with the smaller screen.

I had the car in for an oil change and some warranty work, and the dealer gave me a 2018 Sonata to use that had CP. I used it for 3 days and must say, I'm glad I went with the Ultimate. CP is nice, but with the built in NAV, Bluetooth and wired streaming, and the SiriTalk I love having the DIS wheel and buttons at my fingertips. JMO...

I would have made the same choice. I've had my 2018 for 6 months now. I tried Android Auto for a trip to the grocery store and back. I see some here would not have a car without it, but my priorities differ.

The big screen is nice, as is the HUD. The DIS is great when travelling and looking for a hotel. So easy to find them along the route and call for a reservation.

The big screen isn't that much bigger, though, is it?

I didn't think so until I saw them side by side. The 9.2" screen seems huge compared to the 8"...again, just my opinion. : - )

I have to say if I had Car Play, I would have had a much tougher time deciding between Tech Package and Ultimate. From the brief testing by my friend who is looking to get a Genesis and trying to make the same decision, there really is a huge difference in usability. Siri seems to be a big hit and miss. The one thing that worked flawlessly was texting with voice. But searches and just general voice assistance stuff failed a lot. Even making phone calls was a hit and miss.

For me, Android Auto starts even before I get in the car. It knows my appointments and the second item in the "home" screen is to navigate to the place.

One thing I find really useful in Waze is finding gas stations and restaurants along the way since it shows how far you have to divert to get to it and quickly add it as a stop in the journey. I haven't taken a road trip yet and so haven't checked out whether it works as well in AA. So, I'm curious. How does DIS work when traveling and looking for a hotel?

How does DIS work when traveling and looking for a hotel?

In the navigation screen, just push the button to bring up the menu. Then scroll to POI, then Hotels. It brings them up and you can then select "along route". It lists them by distance so you can pick one a few minutes or an hour along the way. Push the button and you can call them and then you can add it as a way point.

No need to touch the screen or look at your phone. All done with right hand and minimal eyes off the road.
