  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Reading a lot of horror stories between electrical challenges and dealer experiences. Are these overly magnified by the forums or should i stay away from the 2015 MY?

Bought a CPO 15 tech 3.8 3 months ago, and for peace of mind CPO platinum wrapped it for 10 years/100k miles.

In those three months, the only issue I had is the rear passenger window one time would not work - wouldn't go up or down. For about 15 seconds, then it started to work again. Oh, and my phone's bluetooth pairing would sometimes not show up in the navi - e.g. cannot play music from bluetooth device.

The adaptive cruise control, parking sensors, drivetrain etc. have not given me a single problem.

I do experience the light rattling sound of the transmission or front console that others in forum have noted between 25-30mph, but it has never bothered me.

I did have the head unit replaced on mine under warranty, but otherwise, not problems in 39,000 miles.

As for the dealers, every brand of auto has both good and bad dealers. You may want to ask around about the one you are considering using. Car dealers do tend to get bashed in the forums, usually because they deserve it. Having bought many cars over the years, the Hyundai/Genesis dealers are on average the same as others of many brands. The one closest to me sucks, but the ones 25 and 48 miles away are good.

For the price, the features and comfort can't really be beat. But like with anything there are quirks just need to be able to deal with them.

Three weeks with a CPO 5.0 and the only problem was the rear driver's window not going up or down. Resolved itself and started acting up again this weekend but resolved itself once again.

contrats on the cpo, I have a 16 3.8awd purchased new and the drivers rear stopped working a few weeks ago and then the passenger rear a week later, haven't had time to go to stealer.

It is easy to find complaints about any car if you Google "enter_model_here + complaints". But you do bring up two specific issues that are both well documented by owners on this board who are in most cases otherwise pleased with their purchase. I have thought about these same two issues myself.

As for dealer experience I concur 100% with EdP. I too have a poor Hyundai dealer nearby but am fortunate to live within 30 miles of a very good Hyundai dealer. This is an area that I believe Genesis needs to continue to improve in. I also understated how difficult of a challenge this is for a manufacturer with the sales volume of Genesis (not including Hyundai). This will result in a large reduction in dealers to provide enough business to be profitable for the standalone Genesis dealers. I personally am willing to accept this in exchange for a great car at a great value.

I too have read about defective head units on this board. If mine were to fail at my expense that would probably the determining factor for not purchasing another Genesis vehicle in the near future. It is unacceptable to allow Genesis to have a high defect rate versus other manufacturers in the same class regardless of who pays for the replacement. I work for an electronics supplier in the automotive industry. Our business measures defects using DPM (defects per million). Any device or component with a DPM higher than 250 would have people here extremely alarmed and that business would be in serious jeopardy. Based on the sales volume of this model and what was posted on this board I suspect this generation of Genesis head unit to have a DPM well in excess of 250.

Now to answer your question :) I would not steer away from this vehicle based on this. These cars are excellent values compared to their peers. But I would definitely purchase a 2015 CPO with low mileage and some remaining warranty. I find this a very enjoyable car to drive. Good luck.

As far as bad headunits and blown amps, are those just on the ultimate models? I specifically don't want the ultimate because it doesnt have android auto support...

darn, so there's no consistency on which head unit fails...

I should mention, the problem I had was with the Sirius XM radio not holding the activation after car was shut off. I could reset it every day. . Everything else worked so for some, it may not have been a problem. I don't know what others had problems with and how they would affect you.

My honest opinion. I would avoid first year production models due to issues that are usually corrected in the following year models.
If you are fine with buying an extended warranty or CPO model then yes, take the chance on a used 2015 model. If not, then I would be wary of the used 2015 models sold due to early production issues that are not covered by the factory power-train warranty.
I like my 2015 5.0, but I also have an extended warranty that covers the electronics until 100k miles. I would be a bit more leery of the car if I did not have the warranty.

I have a '15 with Sig/Tech packages and my radio has gone out twice. I've had it for 7 mo so I don't see that as too big of a problem. When I say gone out, I mean the XM radio will not pick up a signal and I'll have to restart the car for it to work again. All other electronics used through the head unit still work. I recommend HIGHLY to get a CPO car if you are getting a '15. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but starting in '16, the electronics, mainly the head unit, was converted to the 5yr/60k mile BTB. The '15 is 3yr/30k.

I don't believe you can go wrong with any model years. Common sense will tell us the longer something has been around, the more polished it is. An '18 G80 is the way to go. If you don't buy new cars, start from the newest on down and you'll find something in your price range.

Would like an opinion, would you guys go for a 2015 w/ 14k miles or a 2016 w/ 33k miles. Same price.

Depends on the options and model. If everything is the same aside from year and mileage, then I would buy the 2016 model. If the 2015 model has more options then I would buy the 2015 model. One year usually do not change much in a car since most early production issues take about three years to iron out. The used 2017 and newer models are probably the best way to go. 2015 and 2016 models probably has the same issues more or less.

same options on the 2015 and 2016.

For 2017, they changed the packages and the only way to get the uprated leather seats (which are def. more comfortable) is to get it fully loaded which means no android auto. Also, 2017 prices are significantly higher.
