  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis Model Type
Genesis G80
Looking to buy a 5L 2015 ,43k miles. Has the tech package- adaptive cruise, lane assist, auto braking.
Want to know what are the differences (outside of appearance, of course) between this model and the current ones. Are these tech package options the same version as the current ones?

Drivetrain is the same. Differences are mostly cosmetic. All controls are the same.

360 degree camera, Apple Car Play, Android is now on the new ones. No other things I can think of. Not sure what year these were all added. I have noticed that the Adaptive Cruise is much smoother on the new one than the 2015 we had.

The 360 camera is only on the Ultimate. With the Tech package he can upgrade to ACP & AA if it has not been done.

Since 2016 model, all electronics are covered under warranty 5y/60k miles. 2015 only 3y/36k miles.

Same car. Just switch the H on the trunk to the wings and be done with it. Takes 20 minutes and $8 from Amazon.

ACP and AA work on 2015s as long as it's not the ultimate.

I am here to tell you that the difference between my '15 and an '18 G80 is night and day. Throttle response, transmission shifting, cruise control responsiveness, ride quality, and several features have been beneficially updated. If you've never been in an '18, you probably wouldn't have much to complain about in a '15 however. Just my .02.

Does this make sense? Everyone else is saying that the differences are mostly cosmetic. are you talking 3.3 turbo?

Is it worth it to go for a used '18 model vs. a used '15/'16/'17's?

I'm in the market for a used G80 AWD. I know the '18's have Android Auto/Apple Carplay regardless of trim, and it has a lot of safety features now part of the base trim. Whereas in the '15/'16/'17, AA/AC is only available up to the Tech package, and the safety features are buy-ups in the Premium, Tech, and Ultimate packages.

However, the '15/'16/'17 are significantly cheaper than an '18 making it a really hard purchasing decision.

That is a difficult decision. All are great cars. Get a Hyundai wrap warranty that covers the head unit and electronics. Or, I drove a 2020 G70 3.3 sport today. WOW. Tempted. Road feel and zip are awesome, but I still prefer the overall feel of our larger 2015 Utimate sedan for comfort and road trips. Need one of each.

I've been drooling over the G70 but my wife and I can't justify ~$50k for a car. :(

Forgetting the G80 '18 for a moment. In your opinion, is it worth it to spend a little more to get a Used G80 '17 over a Used G80 '16 over a Used G80 '15? The '15/'16/'17 all seem very, very, very similar to each other with the '15 being the cheapest of the three. I'd get the highest trim that supports Apple Carplay/Android Auto (Signature Trim with Technology Package).

Only you know the an$wer. The differences are not huge. What you pay today for the 2017 is the value a year from now roughly the same as the 2016. Would be good to get a hold of a couple of brochures to see the actual differences. Look at condition, miles, value more than year.

Ha, true. Is the ride quality, suspension, electronics like smart cruise control with start/stop, lane departure, rear view camera, sound quality, etc. all the same across '15, '16 and '17?

I've compared feature availability and it seems identical across those 3 years from what I can tell. Again, I'd go for the Signature Trim + Technology Package. Ultimate is a no-go because no Android Android/Apple Carplay.

All 2015 5.0’s with the ultimate package has an adaptive suspension. The turbo 3.3’s are the only other model to have this feature.

In my opinion, the 2015 5.0 ultimate would be a good choice due to the features and affordability. The 2015 5.0 Ultimate has most of the tech as the newer model G80 and nearly the same styling. You really cannot tell the cars(2015 or 2018 models) apart on the road unless you know the subtle details like the LED DRL or the badges.

The 2015 5.0 Ultimate also gives you the sport package with adaptive suspension and the 5.0 V8 engine as well as the luxury interior package with the real wood trim. Both of those features has been separated in 2017+ G80 models where the G80 3.3T sport only gets the adaptive suspension which upsets me because I love the adaptive suspension and 5.0 V8 engine.

Yes, some will argue the 3.3T engine is quicker when upgraded; but not in stock form. Plus, I believe that many people in the G80 buyers market do not want their large luxury car engine modded out due to possible reliability issues when boosting the turbo engine past factory specs. The 5.0 engine is powerful and reliable in stock form.

If you can live with driving an used older model, than I believe that the 2015 5.0 Ultimate model is the best overall deal that can had for about $25000 or less.

I will take HUD over the applecarplay/adroidauto any day of the week ! IMO the HUD alone is worth having an Ultimate.

The 2015-2016's seem to be the sweet spot as far as bang for the buck... Appears to me that the depreciation is steeper just because they were still badged as Hyundai's. They're still 95% of the car as the newer models. Replace the "H" on the back and no one will be the wiser. My 2015 V8 has held up well and still even smells new inside.

Sure, it's a bummer that the Ultimate's of those years have no AA/ CarPlay functionality but it wasn't a deal breaker for me. A reliable (so far) 420 hp, V8 luxury car for less of the price of a decent Honda Civic did it for me.
