  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

2015 vs 17-18

The 85 Firebird made it across the country? 😁 (I kid, I kid).
Man, driving any 80's GM product across the country took a Big Pair...

It sure did. I just did some AC work on my bosses 86 Corvette. What a POS! Driving something old like that makes you appreciate the newer cars so much more.80s was a bad decade for automakers.

Pretty much anything American from the 70's & 80's were steaming piles. When I was a kid, I saw my mechanic grandfather hurl tools to the ground more than once - along with saying some colorful words that I didn't understand at the time...!

Yeah, it is amazing how you can get 25 mpg with the 5.0, even travelling at 80-85.
Yes, I hear folks keep saying they chose the smaller engine in order to save on gas (maybe rationalizing)) but I have never found that to be the case. My 5.0 gets remarkably good mileage at cruising seeds. At low speeds around town I don’t go very far so it’s really not significant.

I read some old Car & Driver reviews while I was researching that had the 2015 V6 & V8 getting the same Observed Mileage - 19 mpg. So, I just got the V8. My 5.0 actually gets BETTER mpg than my old Infiniti G sedan. It was a win win as far as I'm concerned... I was lucky to see 17 mpg out of it in the city, it would barely crack 22 on a road trip. And that was having a 7sp auto and being a much smaller car.

I am very happy with the 5.0s fuel economy. I cant say enough how happy I am that I went with the 5.0 instead of the 3.8. The guys I work with were telling me how I did not need a v8, bla, bla, bla. Heck if you put it that way I did not even need the car. It's nice to talk with other Genny owners who get it. 🙂

A few years ago, I actually rented a 2015 V6 for about a week during a trip, so I had some seat time under various conditions. The V6 isn't exactly underpowered, but it has to be wound out. The V8 has more easy grunt everywhere and just wafts down the road - but I can't say that I'm immune to it's charms when I decide to take a good hard pull up an on ramp!

Nobody needs a V8... pffft... Michelle Pfeiffer said it best in Scarface... "Nothing exceeds like excess"

I actually managed to get 500 miles on a tank on my 2015 V8. That wasn't the norm, but it is possible. Generally speaking the Genesis V8 is a great highway engine. The more city driving you do, the less you'll appreciate it: it literally hates to stop. Well, more accurately, it hates accelerating from a stop lol. It will accelerate just fine, but it's one of those "Oh alright I guess I have to get off this couch and show you I still got it" things.

Comparing my current 3.3T to my V8 (previous), honestly the 3.3T has it all over the V8 in torque below 3200. There's just no comparison. The 3.3T is just begging you at every light: "C'mon please? Can I run? Huh Dad? Can I? Oh please, oh please!" Above 3200 the story is maybe not reversed, but the script definitely changes. The V8 shines above 3000 rpm. It's smoother, more luxurious, and feels stronger on the top-end. The 3.3T thrashes a bit starting at around 3000 rpm.

Just like Bob Lutz used to say - "People drive torque, but buy horsepower..."

Yeah, with the V8, you have to "poke the bear"... I think that part of the problem from rest is that the V8 idles at like 500 rpm. It's kinda irritating.
