  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis Model Year
2015
I'm working by text with a friend who has the 2015 Hyundai Genesis with the GPS Navigation. He tells me Hyundai sent him a letter that his Blue Link is disabled due to 3g shutdown. He tells me his car is 4G. I have scoured several webpages including one at Hyundai and it says the 2015 Hyundai Genesis with GPS Nav was not due to be shutdown. That is at owners.hyundaiusa .com.
Could it be they shut his off not realizing he has the GPS Nav which likely means he has 4G?

There is some confusion here. BlueLink is the conected services app and web site. It connects to the car via a modem. It will start the car and perform other functions.

Navigation is a different setup. There is an SD card with the program on it and the GPS, like any other navigation tells where the car is to give directions.

This is first I heard that the 2015 has 4G. In any case, his navigation should be working. You can download updates for it too.
Conclusion: BlueLink no work Navigation work.
More information needed as to what his real problem is.

One more thing. What model? Two different head units, 8" and 10"

Thanks for the info. I believe he thinks the Nav is updated by a cell signal, I guess Hyundai uses Verizon which shut down 3G in January.

As far as the 2015 year and his assumption his is 4G, Hyundai says there are 2 specific models of that year that didn't lose connectivity, one being Hyundai Genesis' with the GPS navigation, which his is.

I was wondering if anyone in this group has the Hyundai genesis with navigation and whether their's is working or got shut down?

Sorry, he is mistaken.

Were there any 2015s that did not have navigation?
I know that 2018 with 9.2" navigation has only 3G modems. 2018 with 8" navigation does have an LTE modem. I don't know if that's true of the the 2015 with 8". I know that the 9.2" changed between 2017 and 2018.
Which system does he have? 8" touch only, or 9.2" with the knob in the floor console? For sure if it is the 9.2", no more connected services.

I think ...

GPS navigation does not use any cell signal. Not 2G, not 3G, not LTE. GPS nav receives its signal from a GPS satellite, just like old GPS systems (back in the day.) So, the GPS navigation has not been shut down for anybody. The only functions that have been shut down are the functions that use a cell signal.

Likely, your friend is confused about the above, And, also likely, his car is NOT 4G

And, if his remote start still works, then this is a whole different story.

... So, the GPS navigation has not been shut down for anybody. ...
I don't see anywhere in this thread any claim that GPS nav was shutdown or stopped working.
The OP is claiming that "his Blue Link is disabled due to 3g shutdown." Which should be true. The OP has some theory that since he has GPS (don't all 2015 Genesis Sedans have GPS?), he should have a "4G" modem. I have no idea where that theory comes from.

" What vehicles are impacted?
2G Sunset (Will no Longer be Active): All 2012-2014 Bluelink equipped vehicles, 2015 Bluelink equipped vehicles (except Sonata with Navigation and Hyundai Genesis), and 2016 Bluelink equipped Santa Fe, Equus, Elantra, Elantra GT, Veloster (Non-Navigation), and Sonata Hybrid vehicles."

Under the 3G sunset, it doesn't list the Hyundai Genesis at all, which leads us to believe it has 4G. I guess it doesn't say genesis with navigation as I had thought but indicates all genesis' won't be affected, (apparently because they are not 2G?)

This sentence is probably causing the confusion:

Could it be they shut his off not realizing he has the GPS Nav which likely means he has 4G?

Seems that he may be thinking since he has Nav he has 4G even though they are not related.

Its not my car. It's 500 miles away so I'm helping him figure it out. We are both 40 year retired industrial electronic techs so we're working together in his car, me by text.

The link I posted shows all cars shutdown due to 2G and 3G sunsets and specifically says under the 2G sunset the Genesis is not affected. Under 3G sunset the genesis isn't listed as being shut down. Theorizing it didn't have 3G or 2G. So it must have 4G?

"except Sonata with Navigation and Hyundai Genesis"

I read it too quick and thought it said genesis with navigation but it implies all genesis' aren't not affected.

I told him at least put in his VIN at that site I linked and see. If it says it's shutdown, then I'll believe it should have been. Even though retired he does taxes so obviously he has little time to do what I ask if him. Might take him over a day to respond.

I read the sentence on HyundaiOwners website too quick. Under 2G sunset is says "except Sonata with Navigation and Hyundai Genesis" and I misunderstood it that it was meaning both with Nav.

I'm sorry, but after looking a few times I still don't see any link.
It's clearly not true that all genesis are not affected. I lost connected services on my 2018 G80, and there are plenty of posts from others with various years and models that also lost connected services.

They Hyundai US owners website is mistranslated from the official press release. *ALL* Hyundai Genesis SEDANS from 2015-2018 are affected by the shutdown. The Hyundai Genesis COUPE (a relative unicorn from 15-17) is not unilaterally affected.

The error stems from the Hyundai Genesis 4-door being rebranded into Genesis G80. Hyundai Genesis in current literature most commonly refers to the original 2-door model from Hyundai.

All Genesis 4-door models with telematics from 2014 to 2017 are equipped with 3G modems. Some 2018 and 2019 models were also equipped with 3G modems, I think only in the G80 range (G70 and G90 get updated hardware).

Reading this I would assume that ”all” includes the 2017 G90. So where did you see or read this? If you can’t produce the reference, I don’t think you should state this as fact. My (and other 2017 G90 owners) have put their VIN into the Genesis and it shows as not affected by the 3G sunset.

I like how you chose to quote my post without including the additional statements that G90 isn't included. There was NEVER a "Hyundai Genesis G90". Hyundai publications and Genesis publications treat the 2014-17 sedans as "limbo" cars- technically were made under Hyundai then integrated into Genesis. You can literally talk to Hyundai customer service or Genesis customer service and they'll tiptoe around the question of whose baby it is, although both sides can provide support for the car.

I also said "to" not "through" 2017- it's obviously a technical break year with rebranding into a larger lineup.

Also, if you want specific quotes, go get yourself a Hyundai GDS subscription and look up the service manual documentation for the telematics modules. I'm not going to waste my time digging through an archaic system to find the line that says the vehicle is equipped with a 3G modem. The whole thing is a VIN-based pain in the ass.

If you want a link, even Genesis makes sure to include a blurb for their "integrated" products from Hyundai, tucked away in Section 3 of the disclaimers:

Ed you seem to be in the know....does a 2018 G80 still have Blue Link with remote start?

If you have the 8" screen, then yes it does.
If you have the 9.2" screen, then no it does not.

This has already been stated in this thread and several others.
