  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

So on the highway today I was in moderate traffic going about 45 when the lane I was in started to slow. I moved into the lane on my left that was free flowing and slightly accelerated while making the lane change. Once I was in the lane I let off the gas however the car continued to rev to where I was now heading full speed into the vehicle in front of me like I had the pedal to the floor but I was not touching the pedal. I was about to throw it in neutral and move onto the shoulder when it hit the redline and hung for a second and then it shifted hard enough to shake the entire car with a big thud sound and the rpms went to normal. Thankfully my mother who was going to use my car today had a change of plans so I was driving but this was scary as hell. Has anyone else had this happen? I know once I bring it in I will hear that they never heard of this before but a google search pulls up lots of sonatas and older genesis models with this same issue. This sounds just like the past issues with Toyota

I had the same prob. with a 2008 Taurus.

Never diagnosed/resolved the problem

Finally got rid of a car in mint condx because the obvious legal consequences of driving it were sky high. Mine did it 5 or 6 times and that was enough for me.

Almost sounds as if the smart cruise was accidentally switched on and at a maximum speed setting, know that changing to a clear lane when set car will accelerate to the set speed.
If your positive that wasn't the case a trip to dealer Is imperative!!

I'm a new owner of 2015 3.8....
Mine did this and freaked me out....
Apparently my smart cruise needs delete of previous owner memory settings.
What is procedure to clear previous entries?

RyanB, I have a base model 2016 Genesis and I've had the exact same problem. Twice the car has accelerated as you described. in the first case I was not changing lanes. I was just accelerating normally and the car went into neutral between gear changes, slowly reved up to redline and then banged into gear, chirping the tires. fortunately I was going straight at the time otherwise it would have been really dangerous. I took the car into the dealer and their response was just as you stated. I'm the only one to ever complain of this and they checked the car out and could find nothing wrong. then it happened a second time as I finished changing lanes. again I was lucky to be going straight. this has happened twice now in about 18,000 miles. My speed at the time was around 35 to 45 mph. Since I'm not the only one, it seems there is an issue in there somewhere.

This just happened in my Father's Hyundai Genesis 2013 sedan. It's the second time it's happened and I was there to witness this time as a passenger. So how did you guys proceed?

dealer couldn't replicate and thankfully it hasn't happened again.
