  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

We have a 2016 Equus 45K miles. A few weeks ago the front air suspension failed. We took to a reputable independent mechanic who has been unable to resolve the issue. They installed a new compressor. The suspension works but then eventually loses air, cause unknown. No leak evident after smoke tests. The mechanic consulted a master Hyundai technician who advised resetting the electronic system. That was done but hasn't fixed issue. We towed it to a dealership. They have said replacing struts will fix issue for $5,500. We would pay that if we knew that would fix the issue, but have low confidence that will fix the problem. The dealership will pay us 10k for the vehicle as-is, and the rep actually suggested that towing to carmax would likely yield a better offer. Hyundai customer service has no suggestions and was pretty disappointing. This is our second new Hyundai and we are feeling stuck and frustrated. Any advice appreciated. Thanks!

Welcome! It's the struts. I'm pretty confident. My front struts went out at 82K. I purchased reman units from Rebuild Master Tech Air Suspension, Engine Parts & More... and had my indy install them. I'm currently at 97K and haven't experienced any further issues.
Hi! Thanks for answering. The first mechanic said he tested the struts, smoke tested them multiple times and detected no leaks. He couldn't identify anything wrong with the struts. Also, the car holds suspension for a time after the air is inserted, but then fails after a time. It is primarily on the driver side that this happens. When we brought the car in it was both driver and passenger. Does this still sound like struts are the issue? Just trying to make sure I am clear with describing the problem. Thank you so so much. :) I love this car I am just fatigued and skeptical at this point.

Since you’ve already replaced the compressor and now have different symptoms, I’m not so sure what it could be anymore…sorry I can’t be of more assistance. Best wishes on finding a fix soon!

You might want to check on the Solenoid Valve thats mounted by the compressor. My 2014 Equus will drop the rear end sometimes, and other times it will hold air for days and work fine (Which pretty much confirms to me that its not a leak. A leak would constantly lose air, and not just suddenly stop just to start again a few days later.)

After scanning my car with my XTool scan tool (I HIGHLY recommend picking one up, if you got the money to spare. Even the cheaper IP819 works wonders. It let me change the ECM and program the VIN to the car) i keep getting errors about the valve on time is exceeded, and the live data shows the valves arent actuating like they should sometimes. Ive got a solenoid block on the way, and will report back if this fixes it.
