  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis Model Type
No Genesis Yet!
Hello, I am new here. Earlier This year I decided I was going to buy a Genesis. I settled on the 5.0 Ultimate and my plans were to wait until end of year to Jan-Feb next year to try to get one they are trying to get off the lot. Yesterday I stopped by a dealership to look around and there were no 5.0 Genesis'. The sales guy was trying to steer me to the new G80. I came home and started looking on the site and I do not even see the option to build out a 5.0 Ultimate. A few months ago I was able to. Did they kill these for 2016? I see reviews of it on the web but when I go searching for one they are non existent. In march I saw a glut of 2015 5.0's for sale at deep discounts so I figure the same would occur in 2016. Thoughts?

No 2016 V8 were ever sold in USA.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
But you can get a G80 in a V8...

Welcome to the community Aviator8!

Correct, I would recommend getting a G80 5.0 and replacing the rear trunk badges so it looks like a 2016.

I went to advanced mode, but I can't find the "spit my coffee out" emoticon!
I guess I'll use this one :D

2015 ultimate is better equipped than the 2016 version (as described), would venture to guess the G80 will also lack the upgraded active suspension and other goodies. Maybe look for a clean low miles 2015?

For any Canadians still looking for a V8 Genny, my local dealer has one 2015 Parisian Pearl still in stock. My guess is you'd set a record for a screaming deal on that car.

Frankly, given the exchange rate, this would probably be worth going through the import hassle for a US buyer.

Since it is Canadian, it will be an AWD. I wonder if there is gas guzzler tax on that in the USA?

"Manufacturers of new cars that fail to meet the minimum fuel economy level of 22.5 miles per gallon (mpg) have to pay a “Gas Guzzler Tax.” ... The Gas Guzzler Tax for each vehicle is based on its combined city and highway fuel economy value. Manufacturers must follow U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) procedures to calculate the tax."

May have a hard time getting service on a Canadian car in the USA. And there is no 100K miles - 10 year extended drive train warranty for original owners on the Canadian cars.

I don't know that it would net out to be worthwhile, but I know I'd investigate if it I were looking without success for a new V8 in the States.

CDN$50k (which is where this vehicle would likely net out) is around US$38.5 k at the current exchange rates. Plus whatever fees and taxes are associated with the importation. Not sure where fully loaded V8 Ultimates were at price wise in the States.

But whatevs - that's a solid deal for a Canadian buyer for sure. About $6k less than a new base model V6 Lexus GS up here.

I hope the EPA doesn't ever figure out that my 3.8L RWD doesn't get above 20 mpg no matter what I try...

Wow really? Have you taken it in for service? I recently averaged 27mpg running 87 in the V8 and that was with the car loaded up.

My average over the 6,500 miles I have owned the car is 19.3 mpg. Mostly highway driving, in ECO mode, very little stop and go. Mostly with ACC engaged, so no racing to accelerate, and no heavy braking usually.

Best mpg I ever got was 23 mpg, driving from Austin to Houston and back (500 miles) - mostly cruising around 60-70 mph. I calculate actual mileage using fuelly.com, the trip computer is always 2-3 mpg over-optimistic on what I actually get.

I only use brand name gas (87, from Shell, Exxon or Chevron) and had the oil changed at 1,000 miles (next change at 8,000). I usually drive alone, and I don't have any modifications on my car - all stock, and no extra weight over the standard equipment - all I added to the car was a small umbrella in the door and a few CD cases with music ...

Maybe something is wrong with the car, I will have them check when I go in for the 8,000 mile oil change. I expect them to say that everything is operating as expected though - that's the answer to every question I have ever presented to the variety of dealerships I have frequented in my 30 years of driving ...

I saw a G80 5.0 Ultimate on lot yesterday. Looking at window stick it was very similar to my 2015 except did not list electronic damping, power rear sun shade, no rear side shades. It did list LED running lights. Didn't notice any other differences except badging. MSRP was just over 56k. No carplay or AA listed in description/features.

Most others have independently calculated the dashboard trip computer to be no more than 1 MPG optimistic.

If I were you, I would experiment with some mid-grade gas the next time you take a highway cruise.

My last tank (yesterday) was 18.72 mpg, the trip computer showed 22.4 mpg for the tank - it reset after the fill-up and right now shows 23.7 mpg for the 70 miles since the last full-up. If I remember correctly, the trip computer resets the mpg counter each time the car is filled up.

We have up to 10% ethanol here in TX, which negatively influences gas mileage, but the trip computer should register that I guess.

Mid-grade costs 30 cents more per gallon here (premium is 65 cents more than regular), so at $1.90/gallon I would have to improve fuel efficiency by over 15% with mid-grade, or over 35% with premium to break even. Not sure that's achievable but I will give it a shot. I'll report back once I have done some testing.

And to the OP, sorry to hijack the thread with fuel efficiency talk - that probably doesn't matter much if you are considering the V8 ;)

Yes, it resets after fill-up, but you should be able to reset it manually also. On the 1G, you hold down the reset button for several seconds until it resets.
