  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I am selling a custom exhaust I had commissioned for my 2018 G80 5.0. By comparing part numbers, it should fit any 2017-2020 G80 with either the 3.8, 3.3 turbo, or 5.0 engine. The basis for this system was the Ark Grip exhaust system for a G70 3.3 turbo. I then took it to a custom exhaust shop and had the system extensively modified to fit the G80. All told, I probably have about $3,000 in my quest to have a great sounding exhaust on this car.

Why am I selling it after only using it for 100 miles? It's just too loud. I went with the Ark Grip exhaust as a basis for this build, due to their use of Helmholtz chambers to reduce or eliminate drone. Did it work? Fantastically. This exhaust system sounds phenomenal. It has fantastic bass notes at idle, while making a very 'European' tone under acceleration. But the volume is higher than what I feel suits the character of the car. If it was about 15-20 decibels less, I wouldn't be parting with it. The shop I have used to do this and other projects wants to go in a different direction entirely on my next attempt at this.

But my loss is your gain. This system uses ALL of the stock hanger locations and mounting rubbers and it was built out entirely in stainless steel. You WILL need to supply your own mounting rubbers and gaskets. I will pay for shipping up to $150, and after that you will be required to pay the remainder of the balance. I will use either Fedex or UPS-your call. I will package up the system in copious amounts of bubble wrap, and then box it together.

The price is $2150, and at this point I am not looking to negotiate.

I will only accept ApplePay, and will require the full balance prior to shipping.

If you have specific questions, you can either ask in the post, or DM me and I can provide a phone number to be reached at.

Please also keep in mind that if you are looking to fit this system on a 3.3 turbo motor, you would be better off seeking out sound clips from a G70 3.3 turbo motor, as that is the original intention for this system. There are plenty across the Youtubes.

Also, price is dropped to $1800.

Cheers

What has to be changed? Was it just lengthen?

As this exhaust was originally intended for a G70, a lot. I’m actually in the process of removing it from the car as we speak, so I will take a picture of the stock exhaust beside the custom exhaust, and then include a picture of how it originally arrived at my house.

The G70 doesn’t have a deep trunk depression, so the exhaust from Ark came back from the H-pipe at a 45 degree angle to the mufflers.

The H-pipe, while nearly identical, was about 6 inches short as well.

The sound is phenomenal, but without the turbos muffling it further, it is just too loud for my tastes.

Here's a better idea. The first picture is the exhaust for a G70 3.3T, and the second is after the exhaust shop was finished modifying it for installation on the G80. As you can see, it is not simple to adapt. All told, the shop had my car for a week and it required multiple test fittings so that it hung neutral, used the stock hangers, and aligned perfectly with the exhaust cutout on the G80 bumper.

Do you know if it would fit on a g80 3.3t?

So all that was required was to essentially just lengthen the g70 3.3 ark exhaust ? Thats a beautiful tone I wouldn’t get tired of listening too. With no real Catback for the g80 5.0 the best alternative I heard was the X pipe with exhaust cutouts . The good part about this exhaust is that it probably added a few hp ponies as well ….??? What’s the stock numbers for the g80 5.0 awd whp? Just trying to get a better baseline of how much the na 5.0 tau engine is delivering to the wheels. Thanks for the good write up
