  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

2017 E-Class

Awesome looking. I like the fact that they put the seat adjusters on the door so you can actually see what your moving instead of the old standard type on the side of the seat (like ours) where you have to blindly adjust your seats. No big deal but a nice touch for sure. They also get Car Play :D

seat adjuster knobs have been on the door of Mercedes Benz vehicles since the 80's
MANY have copied this design...my Equus has them on the door

I actually think the EQ900 interior is nicer!

the Mercedes E class is "the standard" in this sedan price class
The EQ900 will be priced similar and a larger car...but if I were a betting man I expect them to sell a lot more E classes

Azera has the seat adjusters on the door. I had a 2013, and I really liked that touch.

I have a 2012 ML350 and the seat adjustments are on the door which is so much better than down on the seat itself. I belong to the local MB club where there are many events and parties throughout the year and you get to know the owners pretty well. I can tell you that MB owners like me are in the minority, ie, people that are looking for the best bang for the buck. Most don't care about the money or value factor.

Most of the MB owners I come in contact with will not even shop the G90/80 for one reason and one reason only - it is a Hyundai. They may acknowledge the excellence of the Genesis/Eqqus vehicle but to most of the Mercedes owners I know the three pointed star means a great deal and they are in effect, married to that badge.

In my personal case, I took a test drive of a Genesis last fall and although I was impressed with the vehicle the dealership experience left much to be desired. I won't go into it all but a simple test drive turned out to be a telling tale of how poor this particular dealer was, or, maybe it was how spoiled I am by the superb Mercedes dealership I deal with. Maybe it was the luck of the draw but Hyundai has no clue how to cater to the luxury segment buyer. The new Genesis brand, if it includes dedicated dealerships, may change all that but it will be a long while in coming.

For all these reasons, the bottom line is that most people that drive or are familiar with a Benz, any model Benz, will forego considering Hyundai, any model Hyundai.

I think your experience was typical. However, there are limits to what Hyundai Motor America can do about it, since dealers are independently owned.

Hyundai dealers are used to selling cars to people who could not afford the equivalent Toyota or Honda product, so their employees are obviously ill-equipped to deal with owners of luxury cars.

Given the current economic conditions, it would hard to find a enough dealers willing to invest millions of dollars in a separate dealership, so selling the Genesis brand at existing dealers is likely to be the short and intermediate term strategy.
