  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello,

My G80 is missing a little spring that goes in the plastic flap that's between the back seat and the trunk. When you open the console in the back the plastic lid just falls down, as the little clip does not stay up. I've looked everywhere and the spring that goes inside (which is what is holding the clip upright, confirmed with another G80) is nowhere to be found.

I haven't really noticed until just now as I rarely put the console down in the back seat. See attached pictures and notice how the small clip is not flush with the top lip, sitting below and not holding the plastic door upright.

Does anyone know what the replacement part is? I want to avoid a dealer trip, especially that now we have a wave of automotive workers strikes and getting this done will require a lot of time I fear. I would prefer to buy it separately and install myself.

Ha! I was just here to search and post about this very thing!

I'll attach a photo of my spring next to a ruler to give you some size comparison....not sure where you can get it from though.
(it's pouring outside now so maybe for tomorrow).

I noticed that my "lid/flap" fell off (I guess the kids were messing with it) I put it back on but then realized something was missing as it didn't stay "locked" I did find the spring and just haven't had time to try to put it back together correctly.

A cursory check of a Genesis OEM pars website indicates you have to buy the whole rear seat arm rest component ($$$$). You can't just buy the spring. This is typical in modern cars today.

Options
O1) Go through the car with a "fine tooth comb". The missing spring is likely somewhere in the backseat or trunk/boot.
O2) Get the OEM spring from a wrecked Genny in your local junkyard.
O3) Buy an assortment of springs (Amazon or local auto parts store) to find one that works.
O4) Use a rubber band or Velcro to secure the passthrough door (bubba engineering !).

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Arm rest $900 LOL.

Anyway here is the pic of my spring....2017 G80....looks to be 1" tall and 1" wingspan.

ETA: Once I get my hands on caliper and micrometer I'll plug in the measurements here and see what they have. (Note they have a min order of $35, individually they are between $1-3 each)

This is great. Based on this picture I was able to recreate this spring in CAD and 3d print a replacement that so far has been working well. I'll be posting a link to the 3d print file later once I do some testing how the new spring performs in hot weather, tomorrow supposed to be 95F where I live.

Question for you, I didn't realize my spring popped out when I replaced the flap. Is it difficult to remove the flap? I'm not sure how it fell out in the first place.
