  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

So, my 2015 Genesis is in the shop right now for some mystery heating problem (see thread here if you're interested). So, for the next few days I am driving a 2017 Sonata Sport.

Anyway, of course (as many others have noted) I immediately started noticing all the subtle differences between my Genesis and the Sonata. Mostly things like quality of hardware.

1. The seats are much more comfortable in my car (I never would have thought that it was such a big difference)
2. Everything seems familiar but not quite the same.
3. The power doesn't even compare
4. It uses the same screen, same software and same interface as my tech package Genesis.

But, there are some things I've noticed that literally have made me laugh.

DON'T HATE ME.

1. The backup camera on this Sonata is far superior. For real. The resolution is better, the refresh rate is better and the FOV is better. I wonder if it's just a different physical camera or if the video is also being processed differently. I know we've talked about this particular piece of hardware A LOT around here but I must admit I instantly noticed a difference when I went to back out of my driveway this morning.

2. The entire infotainment response time is faster. I design touch screen interfaces for a living, so I am a bit of an expert in this field and there's things I can detect (that others can too if pointed out). When I press a button in the Sonata, the response time to the next page or function is faster. (I know, it's a first world problem) Another example is the lag time while turning up and down the volume control. This could mean a few things. It could mean the processor or system memory has been upgraded for the '17 Sonata (without testing the '17 Genesis G80 I couldn't know), or it could mean the software build is slightly different. I know the Genesis is controlling a few more systems in it's infotainment system but I am still surprised. There are a few extra buttons I noticed in the touch screen interface that address a few of my initial Genesis complaints. So, I suspect this means they are listening to their customers. That's a good thing.

Anyway, overall I like the Sonata Sport but it truly isn't in the same class as my car. So, slap me for having an ego on this one. That makes me glad. I didn't just buy an expensive car for the sake of having an expensive car. :) I got something for my money and it shows.

If I could only fix that reverse camera. :)

Listen dude (or dudette!!), let's cut the crap and get one thing straight right now. Parisian Grey is NOT the fastest color.

I am going with Program1 on this, Persian Grey is the fastest color!

Ibiza blue is the most beautiful - fast is legally limited to 80 mph (or less, depends on your state), but there is no limit on beauty.

No surprise and a keen observation on your part. Faster hardware running the same firmware is going to be a much better user experience. When I saw how long the camera takes to come on or the time required to switch from media to radio to map on my car, I realized that the firmware designers had really pushed things. I can only imagine the tug-of-war that took place between developers (less features) and marketing (more features).
