  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Got my 2018 G80 April 2021 from Carmax - had 36500 miles - now Im at 46000 and need to get it in for a tuneup etc. (my car keeps telling me I'm over due for it) - Question is, must I find a Genesis dealer for tuneup / oil change etc? I would rather just take it to my local guy Ive used for years who works on all types of high end cars for service and has a great reputation and does excellent work. What are your thoughts about having a really good qualified mechanic (excellent with Lexus / Mercedes / BMW etc etc.) vs. taking it to a dealership for service? BTW - I believe my warranty is expired if that matters.

Thanks!

David

No such thing as a "tune up" now. That maintenance reminder is usually used for oil changes.
Look in your owner's manual for the service schedule. That tells you what should be done and when. You want to do at least that much to keep the warranty. You can do it yourself, take it to a Genesis dealer, or use an independent shop (or even chain shop) of your choice.

Warranty or not, you can do as you please. Warranty only requires certain maintenance be done but does not and cannot require the dealer do it.

What is your car telling you? It does not say "tune-up" but may say service. That is a resettable time/miles reminder and is usually set at every oil change. Cars have not had tune ups since the points and condenser went away years ago.

Do you have a manual? If not download one and check page 7-9 and you will see some stuff should be inspected and the oil changed. Cabin filer replaced, a five minute DIY job. Get the filter locally for $12 and not the $50 the dealer will get to do it for you.

You can download the manual from the owners web site.

Thanks so much for the info. Did not realize “tuneup” was old school lol! Showing my age! I’ll check manual and get necessary things done. Appreciate now knowing I don’t have to go to a Genesis dealer for things, just a solid knowledgeable mechanic. And yes, dash says Service Necessary, not tuneup lol!
