  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello all, My G80 sport has started doing something weird. When the car is warm, while accelerating at slow speeds, the car is sluggish and kind of hickups until I get up to speed. I took it to the dealer and they couldn't replicate it. It only does this when it's good and warm. Has anyone else had this happen or heard of it before. I've got 10,000 miles before the bumper-to-bumper warranty expires so I really need to figure it out sooner than later. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Max

Any mods?
Current mileage?
Fuel octane?
Check engine light on?

No mods
39,000
high octane gas always
no light.......
Weird. No check engine light means all monitored systems are functioning as normal.
What year, and where are you located? Bumper to bumper warranty varies, but is almost always longer than 50k miles or kilometers.

I'm in Louisville, KY and I thought I only had 50k warranty left. I bought the car after it came off of a lease with 22k on it but the dealer wasn't an actual Genesis dealer, it was a Hyundai dealer. It's an aggravating thing to deal with for sure.

Do you have AWD?

I had a notchy acceleration too, I change the fluid in the tranfer case and that fixed it up. I wrote a post on it here last year with pics and how to

Thank you very much for the link and for the follow-up! Truly appreciated. When your car was acting up, did it do it all the time or just once it got warm? The sluggishness is not noticeable at all until it gets really warmed up.

Yes, the notchy feeling was worse when hot

Post in thread 'Long term reliability of HTRAC AWD transfer case due to inability to change the transfer case fluid?' Long term reliability of HTRAC AWD transfer case due to inability to change the transfer case fluid?

Thanks for the link, I don't know how I missed that. I'm having the same "issue" with that "jerky acceleration" at 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear. In my case, they'll be replacing the transfer case tomorrow, I have an appt. at 8:30am
I'm AWD and 29k miles on the clock.

It really is a shame that Genesis refuses to replace the fluid, instead they change the whole transfer case. Seems like a throwing the baby out with the bath water sort of thing.

Well.....~4,000 miles later, I think it's happening again, but this time it feels like 3rd, 4th and 5th gear. Time to make another appointment.

Hello all, I'm sorry, I forgot to update this post a long time ago. It was the transfer case! Took the dealersship multiple tries with them having my car for over a month but I got it fixed!

Thanks for the update. My 2018 3.3 G80 is doing the same thing and the dealer couldn't replicate it. It's been going on for a while and was thinking of taking it back again, so this helps!

Can I ask how much it cost to change the transfer case? I'm wondering because as I type this, the G80 is in the shop to have the thermostat replaced at a cool $750.

I have to say I've been somewhat disappointed in this car with some of the issues/recalls etc.

Thank you!

I didn't have to pay. They finally covered it and I'm right with you. I don't think I'll be buying another Genesis. Too many issues and no support from the factory. Don't get me started about them dropping the updates for the sound system...Good luck with your G80!
