  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Well since Hyundai was nice enough to get me a 2018 3.8 AWD ultimate loaner, I was able to get familiarized with it and give you a quick comparison between the 18 and 15 and what are some of the pros and cons if anyone is interested.

2018
Pros
+Chassis feels a bit tighter, suspension feels a bit more compliant than 15, but I did see that tire pressure was at 29 and I usually have mine at 34 to 36 psi.

+I like the 2018 model year 18in wheels, but this is personal preference.

+The 360-degree camera is awesome for parking in tight spaces and looking at the front curb so you don't scrape up the front.

+The new updated front end and rear end is nice but looks more like a Chrysler now. The front end has more chrome, but it’s not the satin chrome, this I don’t like because it seems like an afterthought when the rest of the car is satin chrome and you have this bright chrome bar in the front bumper.

Rear bumper lower valance looks great.

+LED active headlights are awesome; the light output is a lot crisper than the 15 HIDs, with better cutoff lines and the active up down left right is nice.

+Heads-up display font seems to be a bit different looks sharper as well, but this could be the aftermarket front windshield they put on when I got the car.

+Engine and trans combo def different, I like the 8 speed in the 18 it seems a bit more responsive, not A7 in dynamic mode responsive but a tad better than the 15.

+Lexicon seems to have a bit more bass in the 18 at the same Treble/mid/bass settings, there is also more volume adjustments and two settings for surround.

+sunglass holder creaking is gone.

Neutral

-The gauges are a bit different, they have analog fuel and temp gauges, it makes the dash a bit busier, the center screen is now revised looks sharper and more responsive, and more options for various settings. The gauges themselves are okay, I would rather the 15 tach and speedo and the new center screen.

-Android auto couldn't get it to work might be cause the missing maps SD card.

-Speaker grills are now chrome on the upper parts of the doors looks a bit fancier.

-Steering in normal seems revised, its takes a bit more effort now in normal mode, Sport mode feels the same.

-The new electronic shifter. It’s def a love or hate on this. I like how fluid it is to move it from R N to D or vice versa. But hate the awkwardness of pushing the P button to park, it doesn’t flow or feel natural. You can active the manual mode via the paddles, and it seems to stay that way, to engage it back to auto just slap the shifter to D again.

-Engine doesn’t have the same growl, I do have a K&N in my but it sounds a bit sportier in the 15 than 18. I did look at the intake setup and does appear to have the same resonance chambers and pipe setup. Maybe I just need to break it in for them a bit more.

Cons

-Already have the same squeaks and rattles, this car has a worse panoramic roof rattle than my car, and I hope they don’t introduce this when putting in the new seals.

-Same seals on the panoramic roof as well, no revisions here, like I expected this probably won’t change until Gen 3 G80 at this point.

These are probably the only negatives I have, otherwise its 95 percent the same as the 15 to me except the engine and trans updates which feels a tad better.

Good feedback! If you still have the car, does it show the final assembly location in the door sill?

Just took a look it shows april/6/2017 build date but does not show on that big sticker where.

Traded a 15 for an 18. I agree with most of your assessment. You do get used to the shifter and putting it in Park. What I don't know is the reliability down the road pushing a couple of levers versus a series of actuators or whatever they use.
Love the cameras
The HUD no longer shows the radio volume as you make changes but does show the station
TP should be 33. Here where it gets cold, set at 29 it will drop on the first really cold day and set off the sensors. Then people show up at the dealer wondering what the problem is.
On the 15, I could leave the steering wheel heat on and turn the car off. When remote staring it would go on and be warm. The 18 just goes off and has to be turned on again after you get in the car. With the remote I can turn the defroster on, would be nice to be able to turn the seats on.
This is my 3rd car with pano roof. All have been quiet and tight.

Thanks for filling that in, yes the steering wheel heater does not come back after shutting off the car. I do notice my 15 seems to defrost better or quicker than the 18. The auto dim mirrors def work better without tint.

The shifter is def not a deal breaker I like it when going from revers to drive and feels more modern just that darn P button. if it was in a better spot maybe much better.

The new shifter will automatically shift into park when you shut the car off. Please verify this so your car doesn't roll away.

I prefer the 2015 speaker grills. The heads up is crisper on the 2018. There are more options on the 2018.

You can do a modification to make the heated steering wheel, defroster and heated seats turn on automatically at start. It is not super simple. I have done this with heated/cooled seats and the rear sunshade. The sunshade is a little more complex because it has to be activated at startup and shutdown.

Yes, it will shift into Park when you shut the engine off. Even though I've done it, I just verified that in the manual at page 5-20. I've just gotten into the habit of pushing the button. If I drop my wife off at the door to a store I got into the habit of always shifting to P as a safety measure.

Was the switching of the heaters to stay on done by computer or in settings?

You may get this message below according to manual. They really want you to press P not just shut off the engine. Then apply the parking brake. I have gotten in the habit also and I have it set to also unlock all my doors.

Shift to "P"
This message is displayed if you try
to turn off the engine without the shift
lever in P (Park) position.

Ha, never mind on my other post, just saw this one! Thanks for the comparison!

Hi!
How do you modify the heated/cooled seats on when the car starts?
I really want it.
Thank you.

Search his posts; I believe he posted the instructions when he made the change. If I'm not mistaken he's an electrical engineer, and the instructions are pretty thorough.

Oh speaking of the same issues, the weather seal on the passenger side has the same deformation, by the seatbelt area. The more I drive this and spot the issues the more I don't mind owning a 15 lol.

The modification to turn the heated/cooled seats on involves using a timer relay to push the switch for you. There are several things to keep in mind:
  • You need a timer to delay the pushing of the button for 3-4 seconds after the car starts.
  • You will need a second timer relay to push the switch. The second timer relay cannot connect for too long or the heated/cooled seats will switch back off (same as if you hold the button for too long.
  • You can use a simple single pole double throw switch with center off position to switch between heated/cooled seats. The center position is off.

I will email a wiring diagram to anyone that sends an email to me. I use an inexpensive off the shelf timer. It took a while to figure out, but should work to trigger any momentary contact switch.

Oh also noticed on the 2018 that the BSD doesn't show up in the HUD anymore, now when a car is in the blindspot it just lights up the mirror but not in the HUD. I like this a lot in the HUD.

This is from the Genesis 2018 G80 site. Says it’s there. What does it say in your manual?

It shows up on mine. Maybe you have it turned off in the settings. There are options for what shows.
