  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

2019-2021: can I use any license plate mount for under the radar or go OEM from Genesis/Hyundai? Open to recommendations. NOT interested in tow mount.

Very happy and proud new owner of a 2021 G70 Prestige. However, my state requires a front license plate.

Can I just use any old license plate mount or should I get get the OEM one from Genesis/Hyundai? I plan to mount it under the radar and assume I have to do some drilling (although "no drill" would be most preferable). Someone on Reddit said the OEM one doesn't need drilling and snaps into pre-existing dimples on the front bumper.

I'm open to any and all recommendations except I'm NOT interested in the off-centered tow hook plate. It bothers my OCD.

Also, I've thought about just not putting the front plate on, but as a racial minority, I'd rather not attract unwanted police attention.

Thanks in advance!

Unless you can figure out how to fit a flat plate over all the various contours in that area, you'd better off just getting the OEM mount. Pretty sure it is mounted with screws, since I did that on our G70 after taking delivery. This is what it looks like:

I believe there is a different version for what-looks-like euro style wider plate, if you want to get fancy about it.

Thank you so much. The OEM mount is probably what I'm leaning towards. And since it appears both Hyundai/Genesis take the same bracket mount, that may mean the Hyundai and Genesis dealerships around me will have something in stock.

Normally, I'd order online but I'd rather get it as soon as possible to minimize any issues. Do basic car parts stores sell similar fitted mounts (even if they're generic non-OEM)?

You typical neighborhood auto parts stores (AutoZone, O'Reily's, etc.) won't have something this specific. They will have generic ones that you'd have to figure out if they would work well on particular cars.

OEM is your best bet. Of course, I'd prefer no front plate, but I think the OEM mount looks okay. Better than the off-center towhook mount, which (like you) triggers my OCD... and possibly the parking sensor.

Yes, your local Genesis dealer will have it or can certainly order one for you. It's pretty cheap anyway, so not really a need to buy online and pay shipping, unless the part number has been discontinued and dealers cannot order any more (which has happened to some parts).

You rock - thank you. I posted elsewhere on the Internet and there were a handful of replies who kept recommending the off-centered tow mount. lol sigh

FWIW, on some cars, I can see why folks want to relocate the front plate. For example, the front plate holder on the Stinger screws directly into the painted bumper cover. Urghhh... There goes an otherwise pristine front bumper. My Stinger came already drilled, so too late to do anything about it.

On the G70. the mounting screws sink into the black plastic on the front grill. The screw holes are sunken in the recesses, so really not all that noticeable. If our G70 ever gets registered in a state that doesn't require front plate, it wouldn't take much to cover up the holes in the black plastic and make them all but invisible. So, IMO, no real need to get anal about it.

You could always roll the dice and not install it but keep it handy and available to set on the dash if pulled over. Texas requires front plates but I’ve never installed one on any of my vehicals. I do keep the plate within easy reach to place on the dash if I get pulled over. Most cops have better things to do than hassle for a front plate. Though not having one is an invitation for sure and if you think you might be singled out I get you wanting it installed. Just makes the front aesthetically not great in my opinion.

Hi, could you possibly put up some pictures of your install with that mount you purchased from ebay? Looks like it is just the mount with no hardware to install. Also not seeing where you would screw in the license plate, it looks like it has the 3 mounting holes for attaching to the body. Thank you.

I didn't buy it from ebay. We bought our '21 G70 6MT new and it came with that bracket in the trunk and I installed it.
