  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

2019 G70 AWD 3.3TT Sport in the snow?

Living in PA, it got below 40 degrees recently, and I posted about the "slipping" that was happening to me whenever I accelerated in a turn from a stop. Thought it mainly was the LSD, but realized the Summer Tires were doing it. I am a little dismayed that I have to swap tires out a car that I only have had for a month, but what can I do? I also find it odd the Summers would be offered on cars in the North East, but what do I know?

Anyway, next week, the Summers are coming off, and going in my shed for 3 years, til the lease ends, then back on the car when I return it. I am installing a set of "Continental “ContiExtremeContact” All Season Ultra High Performance" - all-season tires to run for the next 3 years.

These Summer tires cannot be on this car living around here! Not only the upcoming snows, but the below 40 temperatures make them rock hard.

Your problem isn't a problem. Just something you have to take care of and looks like you have. I still have my summers on in Nova Scotia Canada (not exactly by choice at this point). Winters tires mounted Monday. Just know what you have and drive accordingly.

And don't pay to mount the brand new summers on and return the car with them. The dealer won't care at all. Sell them now (or spring) to pay for your all seasons. Why put them back on the car at the end?

Hey Truck -

The reason I hang onto them, is because when I turned in my old Genesis, I had to buy 4 new tires, and I want to hang onto these in case i do have to do that again - I'll have them check the tires hen the lease is up, and if I need them, I'll put them on - if not, then onto Craigslist they go! :)

Interesting. I've never leased before, but that surprises me. As long as they were tires suited for that model and were above the minimum treadware you would think that would be fine.

By the same logic you aren't asked to replace the brake pads, rotors, wipers, filters, oil, etc when returning the lease? These are all wear parts as well.

I'm guessing here but either it is part of your specific lease agreement (in writing) or it is a cash grab and you have grounds to tell them to pound sand on the new tires. I don't see another scenario. Anyone else care to comment, is this normal for leasing?

If they put all seasons on the Sport, the guy down the street buying the same car would be questioning why they put those tires on instead of a good performance tire. "I bought a Sport for performance, what gives with these tires?

When that car came down the assembly line in Korea, did they know it would end up in a cold climate? I don't know how that works during the build.

When I turned in my 2017 G80, the brakes were fine (I guess!) . It was turned in at 36,000 miles, and was in immaculate condition.

However, as in lease agreements, I was responsible for "wear and tear" on the car, (dents, rips, tears) and that included the tires, that had 36,000 miles and would not have passed inspection. So, I had to replace them myself, or be charged for them to do it. I did put much less expensive tires on it, got from discounttirecom. Fine tires, just not Michelins.

Apparently, the brakes were OK, and nothing else was wrong. Genesis also pays for all your oil changes for 3 years so that's handled. I had replaced wipers on my own. But, I did get dinged on the tires.

And, I probably would get dinged on the G70 too, when I turn it in after 3 years, especially with these soft summer tires.

So, tires, yes you are responsible. It's part of the wear and tear. Cracks, and large dents too. If you have a scratch smaller than a dollar bill, they let you slide, and small dings too, are not charged. Unless you are a lunatic or a hobo with your car, when you turn it in, you should be OK.

My G80 I returned a month ago -below

Thanks for the clarification, that all makes sense.

As Ed said, that's part of the 'Sport package' and really shouldn't surprise you. Makes perfect sense to me. You are buying a sports sedan in the 'sport trim'. Not only that, but the summers they put on aren't cheap, they are excellent tires. It's too bad your salesperson didn't inform you, mine did, I asked if I got the sport trim could I swap out, she said no, you get them, and you'd need to buy a new set of tires (all season or winters) on your own. I weighed it out, and frankly, in the middle of summer, I'll be very pleased with the summers, so I went with the sport. My situation is different though, where I live, getting winter tires is pretty much a no brainer. Some provinces mandate it, and if you drive in the mountains a lot, in certain areas they won't let you drive without them. So regardless of the trim, I get winters anyway.

Makes sense, guys - probably was a dumb complaint! :) Thanks for the input! I am looking forward to getting the A/S on the 70 and seeing how it does in the snow, when it arrives.

No, I don't think it's a dumb complaint at all. Everyone has a different situation. Personally, I think they should allow you to swap out the tires. For my situation, I'm getting snow tires even if I got the trim with the all seasons on it, and I most likely will get performance all seasons (is there such a thing lol - well there are performance winters so why not) once my summers need replacing. Like I said, your salesperson should have pointed that out to you before you selected that trim, then it's your decision in the end whether or not to go with the sports package. At least you have a backup plan so that's good, and when you return the car you won't need to buy new tires for someone else so it worked out!

Enjoy and yes let us know :)

Will do - I did buy it "off the floor" and it didn't occur to me then on that pleasant fall evening to even take into consideration the tires - my fault. But all good- A/S will be on in a few weeks.
