  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

2019 Genesis Blower Resistor Failing Due To Faulty Front Wiring Assembly? I’m desperate.

2019 g70. 30,000 miles, purchased from dealer 16 months ago.

So 6 months ago my AC went out. Only blowed hot air, made a hissing sound. I’m in the Florida heat and that’s not fun. Took car to local Tires Plus. Original diagnosis was that the blower resistor failed, which was odd for 30k miles.

the technician was in contact with a Hyundai engineer at a nearby dealership to figure out the root cause.

It turns out, the ENTIRE front wiring harness (91200B) is faulty, heats up so bad causing wires to short and melt, in my case the blower motor resistor.

I told him to replace the resistor and just get the AC working- $900 spent and AC working fine.

Last week it happened again. Same symptoms, AC hissing, a few days later- only hot air.

The front wiring assembly is a $4,000 and rarely in stock. I’ve searched and searched online for similar cases. I only could find a similar wiring issue with much older models, like 2015 G70s and some older Hyundai models.

I’m not a car guy, but I try to do my research. What do you guys think is going on here? How did my 2019 with less than 30k miles (which was a leaser previously) have a faulty wiring harness? The dealership had to have known?

The car is basically totaled if the harness is 4K (if they can even get it) let alone labor costs. Any insights would be appreciated.

I’m attaching what the Hyundai engineer sent me, a diagram of the harness that’s faulty. And also the potential invoice that was generated for the replacement.

... older models, like 2015 G70s ...
There is absolutely no such thing as a 2015 G70. There were 2015 Hyundai Genesis Sedans, which later became the G80.
The blower speed controller (it's often called a blower resistor, but it is not) controls the blower speed. It has nothing to do with air temperature. It sounds like your AC refrigerant has leaked out. I guess the other possibility is that the wire that controls the compressor valve has been damaged.

Thank you for your reply. As to why I said “2015 G70”, I should rephrase my ignorance and simply say 2015 Genesis - thanks for correcting.

As far as the original part diagnosis, I said the “blower resistor” failing, not the blower speed controller. Attached is my first invoice regarding the blower resistor replacement only 6 months ago.

You mention a refrigerant leak, meanwhile Hyundai engineer says it’s a faulty front wiring harness that will cost 5-7k - on such a newish car.

I guess I’m just fishing for others with similar experiences after I’ve researched to no avail. Seems like I’m the only one in this predicament and not sure how to proceed.

Please understand that the "blower resistor" and the speed controller are one and the same thing!

2019 G70 should still be under 5/60 factory warranty. Why are you fixing this on your own dime? Go to the dealer service dept and have them take care of it under warranty.

And have them give you a loaner. This should be Genesis' problem.

I’m in the same predicament with my 2019 G70 except I have more miles than you do. I’m in Texas and this all started at the beginning of the summer. The blower works intermittently and my initial suspicion was something to do with the heat we are experiencing this summer. I’m not so sure anymore but my mechanic suspects that it is a resistor issue. I previously had the Freon refilled and dyed to check for leaks at a later date. Apparently there was no leak apparent as I got it from the shop today and the fan was blowing fine. It’s been a few hours now and the fan just went out on me again.

Did you ever get your issues resolved?

I experienced the same intermittent working with my fan motor as well. Could feel cold air at the vent but no fan pushing it. Checked today and the blower fuse (part of the multi-fuse assembly under the hood is burned and some of the plastic is melting around that specific fuse.)

I have seen on youtube where one car had this problem multiple times and its a full wiring harness replacement to fix. Just curious if there are possibly defects with the OEM fuses causing this that maybe an aftermarket fuse would fix? I will sell this car before I pay 4-5,000 for a wiring harness.

Omg this just happened to me today… did you figure yours out? I’m still under warranty and I can’t afford any of what everyone is talking about ! This is insane!

Mine just came in the mail today as well. Good on them for addressing this issue. Will report back if they get it going and what my experience is with the local dealer.

I wonder if this applies to all affected cars.

I’m sure you got the letter now. Hopefully they took care of you.

You should be getting a letter that they will fix it. My only problem is are they actually going to replace the whole harness like they should, or try a cheaper alternative?

I would have the same concern.
I got my letter yesterday. So far I haven't had an issue.

I bought my g70 on 8/26/2023 with about 59350 miles. Beautiful paid cash under KBB. Get it transferred over in genesis records so I can use all connected services. Link it to autotrader so it reminds me of my service schedule because I'm a nerd. Start looking in the diagnostic area and there is a spot to check the codes that have alerted on the car. A crap ton pop up starting back in Sept 2022. Look at the service records from previous owner with basic info can see he's been having electrical problems with this car for a long time. Start to get really worried run the actual car health while in the car on 9/12 ETC codes alert. Call Genesis customer care line they call the local dealer (Hyundai/Genesis) no appointment until November. Service lady says lete talk to my manager and call you back. No call but I do get a text saying I made an appointment for 10/4/2023. Wow thanks! Don't drive car except for emergencies ~300 miles since I bought it. Drop the car off 10/3. Get a call 10/4 saying the multi-fuse is melting and the harness needs to be replaced. One part (harness) is backordered until end of November. Dealership doesn't have any loans. Now dealing with Genesis case manager and she is trying to have the part expedited and a rental until my car is ready. I move out of state at the end of the month. I don't trust the dealership since the previous owner had already had it checked there for problems. I asked for some remedy of having it moved to a real genesis dealership in a bigger city. Transfer to my new state when it is completed and a rental. I just want them to help me wash my hands clear of these problems they created. I haven't contacted the BBB yet I don't know if I should. I live in Florida there are no laws here to protect consumer rights (they don't believe in LEMONs here only oranges). IMG_6071.webp
