Agree. I think that may happen, but a long time down the road. They have to get the money makers in the market first, like the G70 nationwide and then an SUV. They don't need a Cadillac XLR equivalent in the lineup.Yeah, I'm pretty skeptical. I think some derivative of the Essentia may well see the light of day eventually but I don't think it will be that soon. If a coupe materializes, I would expect it to be a lot closer to the G70 in appearance and underpinnings than to the Essentia. The latter, I suspect, will be a separate model with a substantially higher price tag than the "regular" coupe, whenever that appears.
2019: G80 refresh
2020 (early): GV80, GV70
2021?: G70 Coupe
Yes they are, but they also look good and can be fun to drive. I've had a few in the past and would get one again if I ever bought a second car.Coupes are inconvenient and impractical and for what purpose? They should add a liftback model instead.
I believe I heard that the compact and midsize SUVs are delayed until the start of 2020, so the release schedule is likely something like this as a result:
2019: G80 refresh
2020 (early): GV80, GV70
2021?: G70 Coupe
The new G90 is somewhere in there. The coupe will likely follow the design language of the refreshed G80, which will follow the design language of the GV80 prototype. As stated before, I doubt it'll follow the Essentia design language. A reason I like the G70 now is that it won't have the weird straight-line headlights that the GV80, Essentia, and likely the new Genesis products will have.
In a spy shot article on the G80, they mentioned it was just a refresh. I distinctly remember that because I was disappointed because I want the interior button console redesigned, and a refresh makes that less likely. How accurate this source was I'm not sure of, because as you imply it does make more sense for the G80 to be brand new since it carried over basically the same from the Hyundai Genesis and its age shows.Don't you mean the new G80 and the G90 refresh?
Thinking on it more, I would bet that the new Genesis coupe will be all electric.
I initially had my doubts about the coupe being like a mini Essentia because it's too fringe, while Genesis is still trying to get mainstream vehicles on the market and has a lot of development on the G70 to build off of for a coupe. But the market shift and potential sales shown from Tesla are too significant to ignore. The good reception of the Essentia and Genesis' verbal support of electric vehicles may also hint this direction. What do you guys think?
