  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I estimate that a lot of G90 owners will be dealing with their leases ending sometime this year. If you are considering staying with Genesis, are you

1) considering G80 instead of G90
2) if so, what are the considerations that would sway you one way or another?

I returned my 2017 G90 at lease end and planning to lease 2020 G90.
The new G80 is a fantastic car but if the G90 is softer, more comfortable to drive and less noise inside the cabin then I am staying with G90. If they are almost identical then I will be likely move to G80

I was really impressed with the review of the 2021 G80. I'm seriously considering it when my lease is up in December. I still have to see the G90 2021 though.

The 2021 is very tempting. I doubt the 2021 G90 will be any different than the 2020

I'm in the same boat, but what would you potentially be giving up by "downgrading" to G80?

Soft close doors?

I think I saw them on 2021 G80 in one of the reviews. Also I think I heard of double-pane(?) glass for better soundproofing.

The new G80 is going to have better technology than the current G90, but it's still a significantly smaller vehicle with less road presence and lesser materials. Having sat in the new G90 (prior to the virus fiasco), the amount of stitched leather in there is bonkers. The new G80 certainly has a better designed and more modern interior, but you can see areas skimped out, like using soft plastics instead of stitched leather on the upper door trim.

Even though the G90 is currently the cheapest in its class, it's still a class above the G80, and the price and quality reflect that. Only reason I can see anyone moving downward is if they wanted the latest and greatest in modern tech- to which would you really be looking at a Genesis over the German competition for that sort of thing?

Think there are some areas where the G90 has higher quality materials (such as the upper door trim and the center console being fully wrapped in leather - a needed addition for the F/L as the K900 had that), but it's a lot closer than it was before..

Really depends on whether one prioritizes interior material quality or if one is willing to give a little on that for the latest tech and a more modern interior aesthetics (not sure of this, but think the new is superior to the G90 in one respect w/ regard to interior materials in that all the switch-gear that looks like metal is metal whereas in the G90, there are some metallic painted plastic buttons on the center console.

Can't say for sure until I see/touch the interior of the G80, but for a person who expects a certain level of interior quality, can overlook the few areas where the G80 isn't on par w/ the G90 for the more modern design and the tech.

Plus, the sheetmetal of the G80 is a more striking and cohesive design than the F/L G90 (albeit the polarizing front grille of the G90 does make it look imposing) and the G80 should be fairly athletic for a sedan of its size.

Until the next G90 launches, the reasons to get the G90 over the G80 is if (1) one wants stitched leather on as many surfaces as possible, (2) likes the polarizing, but more imposing grille, (3) prefer having that soft ride of a luxo-cruiser over something a bit more dynamic, (4) can't bear the thought of having to pull up the rear sunshades manually and (5) can get a better deal on it compared to the new G80.

Leased my 2017 G90 Ultimate which ends in September. Great car. I will take a hard look at the 2021 G80 to see how comfortable and quiet it drives. Wish they offered the 5.0 V-8 but hopefully the new 3.5 twin turbo will offer strong performance.

I definitely love the V8 in the G90. Hard to let go of that!

I currently lease a 2018 G90 5.0 AWD. My lease is up in July of 2021 (next year), which I'm happy about as the new G80 and GV80 will both be out by then. I love my G90 and would definitely consider leasing another one, but I’m very attracted to the new G80 and GV80. Also, it sure would be nice to get a cheaper car and have a lower car payment. I intend to test drive all three vehicles. I realllllllly prefer a V8, but like others have said, the twin turbo V6 may be just fine and may keep me equally satisfied. We shall see! They’re all great vehicles. The G70 is just too small for me. The augmented, more-modern technology in the G80 entices me a lot.

What I am also realizing, that my almost 3-year-old G90 is quiet as a tomb is absolutely 0 rattles - none, nada, zilch. If anything rattles, it might be my sunglasses in the holder (which kinda shame - they really need to put some extra felt in there) or a water bottle in the holder. That's it. My previous G80 of 3 years wasn't a rattlebox, but wasn't as quiet and rattle-free - that's for sure.
