2021 Genesis G80 – First Look – Exterior & Interior; All-new Genesis G80

The new 21 80 has me itching a bit with it's improvements, better LKA, the added Door Close assist, lane change cameras and even the smaller engines are a plus for me but, don't like the blower and staggered wheels. Chances are there is no spare with this ride. The ride! I hear it has has been cushioned a bit.

I love the style of the car -very evolutionary but am dismayed at the price I saw on the build it site.

My first Ultimate was 52k list. Sport was 58k the new AWD G80 with same engine and 'Prestige'Package is 69k! As far as I can see this is roughly the same optioned car (give or take) as my Sport. I am a Genesis fan and booster but this pricing would dampen my interest
in another Genesis. I also did not think sales success for the G80 had been so outstanding as to signal a big price increase.

I know it is early in the game and there are lower cost option packages, etc however price/value was one reason I came to Genesis from Cadillac CTS series cars,

No other options for a RWD lux midsize sedan other than the 5er and E Class which will be a good bit more comparably equipped.

New platform, engines, added tech and an interior that is finally on par, if not better than the Germans - that all adds up (you get what you pay for).

Look at the price jump the 2021MY TLX makes - base model now starting at $38.5k (a $4,500 price hike) with the Type-S starting over $50k (add options and the price increases).

And the TLX doesn't make the jump when it comes to interior appointment that the G80 does.

I am not sure where the TLX pricing fits here as that is not a vehicle on my radar.
Just expressing my thoughts (again I feel very proud of my efforts to be a Genesis promoter/pioneer the past six years). I don't believe the marque is quite ready to do battle against BMW 5 and E class (I have owned both brands) with the new pricing. When I leased my G80 Sport it was about 12 grand less than a comparable 5 Series with 6 banger. As this pricing becomes closer one must also look at resale and lease programs which I can assume will be stronger for the Germans. The economic backdrop will also (IMHO) take some luster from the drive to own a 'prestige' vehicle.
These are just my first impressions and opinion and I do not suggest that I have made a lengthy marketing study or comparison. We will all find out in 6 mos. or so.
