  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis Model Type
2G Genesis Sedan (2015-2016)
I am looking into replacing my 2015 Genesis sedan with a 2022 G70 but I looked at the headlight rating on IIHS and it was listed as marginal. I am a "senior" and need all the light
I can get.
Anyone have any real world commentary on their experience with the 2022 G70 Headlights?

No problem with mine the few times I’ve driven it at night.

ckon,
thanks for your feedback, appreciate it!

I just checked with my wife - she drives it most at night and says the lights are “very good”.

I think a couple of reasons why the 2022 G70 is rated as "marginal" is because the new LED headlights from Genesis aren't equipped with auto-leveling and active-bending lights like on the 2019-2021's. I think the 2022 G70 was reported to have an issue with glare to oncoming drivers. When looking at the IIHS ratings, the 2022 G70 does have a far longer beam pattern than most. A good thing for the driver, maybe a negative for oncoming traffic. We unfortunately don't get the Matrix type lighting system on G70 like in Korea.

I think the lights are pretty good on my 22. The low beams aren’t as amazing as the 20 murano I have thou. I have to travel on a 2 lane curvy and hilly road for part of my daily trip and the it seams the low beams don’t light up the area as good as I would like. That being said the high beams take care of that and they are fantastic imo.

Don’t forget that the lights on a low car can’t push out as far because raising them more easily causes blinding oncoming drivers. An SUVs lights can be maybe a foot higher, slanted down, and still project further.

No doubt about the height making a difference. I had a 2010 genesis coupe 3.8 for 10 years and I’d say they are on par with the 22 low beams.

One thing I forgot to mention was that my 22 has a dead or low light spot directly in the middle of the car where the beams cross a bit. Not that I think it affects me seeing anything I just remember that it striked me as odd the first time I drove the car a night.

That’s to shadow the light for oncoming traffic,

I want to say thank you to all those who responded. After reading all the comments the G70 is back at the top of the list.

I’ve done headlight retrofits in the past and although these led headlights arent the brightest, they are still much better than the old halogen bulb headlights.

Odd that Genesis removed the auto level and lights that turn with the steering wheel like my 2020 has. I like that feature. Guess a bean counter wanted to save some money on car pricing so they removed that feature maybe? Should at least have an option available so you can add that back in if so desired.

I suspect (but do not know) that the idea is to get rid of the mechanical parts that do that and replace the function by switching in and out different individual LEDs instead. Most would agree that eliminating moving parts if you can still accomplish the same thing is good. Unfortunately, the US DOT seems very stubborn about not keeping up with new technology.

Just parted ways with a ‘18 GLC. The headlights in it were quite good. Had my GV70 for two weeks now and so far I find these headlights much brighter more direct. this might be conjecture on my part but the GV70 has given my a better sense of security especially at night

I agree and wish they were self levelling etc. However, they are excellent and absolutely live the auto high beam feature. I’m 74 and need good lights as well therefore I’m very fussy about what lights I purchase.

So the 2022 and 2023 G70’s all get the highest IIHS rating on headlights as long as the 2022 models were built after June 2021. But indeed any of the 2022 G70’s built before July 2021 got the lower “marginal” IIHS rating. Some of the 2020 G70 models actually get their worst rating of “poor” depending on build date and trim level. Fwiw, I’m very impressed with the illumination my 2023 G70 provides even on low beams

That’s to shadow the light for oncoming traffic,
that was one of the first things I noticed when driving my GV70. The center of the illumination field had a "divot" shaped shadow in the center upper border. Thought it was strange but everyone seemed to have the same light pattern. Otherwise, lighting seems exceptional regarding brightness
