  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

2023 Genesis G90

If you haven't seen this yet.

^ The LS feels like 2 gen behind... ouch!

Not a professional review, but by a longtime driver of flagship sedans (4 LS & 4 S Class, including a current S580).

Yesterday, I was invited by a local dealer to drive the brand new, 2023 Genesis G90. I drove their top line model with the supercharged V6. Honestly, I came prepared to really be turned off, but the car is pretty amazing.

Back in 2017, Genesis loaned me a G90 for a two day test drive. There were several things that were a turn-off about that car, enough for me to not consider it a contender in the luxury sedan category. This new car is light years better.

The car drives amazingly well, with plenty of pep from the 409hp twin-turbo V6 with an electric supercharger. I would call the propulsion “buttery,” being extremely smooth. Transmission shifts are almost imperceptible.

Ride quality was superb, which was truly amazing, since the car rode on 21” wheels, which are standard on this model. I drove on the freeway and then on some fairly rough surface streets and I was very impressed with the comfort. The wheel design, to my way of thinking, is overly busy and should I ever end up with one of these cars, I’d probably swap out the wheels first thing, hopefully for something smaller in diameter and of a less fussy design. Unfortunately, Genesis provides no spare, but provides a “TireFit” kit. Kudos to Genesis for providing Michelin tires, where one might expect to see the Hankooks that MB saddled me with on my S580.

Genesis has also found it necessary to copy other brands by going with pop-out door handles and an all glass, pano-style roof. How I could have done without either of those!

The massage seats are infinitely better than in my S580. The adjustable pressure is significantly firmer and deeper, while being absolutely silent. I find the “popping” sound made in my S580 to be irritating and have always felt that the pressure was lacking.

Believe it or not, the doors have electric closers with buttons on the door panel and on the center console. Touch the button and the door closes. No stretching to reach the door. Why MB didn’t do this on the W223 is just beyond me. Well done Genesis.

The upgraded Bang & Olufsen sound system seems to rival the 4D in my S580 and is standard in the supercharged model. With 1700 watts & 23 speakers, it’s no wonder why.

Most all features have buttons & switches in addition to the touchscreen controls and the dash layout is much more traditional than the W223. I like it.

The wood trim in the cabin is dull and reasonably ugly. The fact that it really isn’t all that noticeable is a good thing. Even though the interior is very well done, it does not compare with the Exclusive Nappa W223 option. Genesis needs to work on this. The interior could be more attractive. And, just to show that they can be as stupid as MB, the cream color interior has near white, cream colored carpeting, which is insane and completely impractical.

In summing up, right at $100K MSRP, the car is a bargain, in my opinion. I need to drive one for a few hours to really make up my mind as to how good it really is, but based on my 15 minute test drive, I am very impressed. With this new car, I truly believe the new G90 to be a player in the MB, BMW, Audi luxury sedan segment.

Also, further down the thread, someone posted the WSJ review.

I drove the LS 500 and the G90 back to back yesterday. I'll give an honest opinion... what I'll point out below is primarily nitpicking.

The LS 500 is clearly the better drive if you are primarily interested in speed and driver dynamics. It is both fast and responsive. Surprisingly comparable to an 8 series BMW. Also the build quality was very high and everything felt a bit more substantial.

The G90 was the better overall experience and I would get it hands down over the LS. Everything felt newer. Great tech, nice screens front and back. Comfy and plush driving experience, and nowhere near as boat like as the last generation model, which felt like a Lincoln Towncar when I drove it. This driving experience felt like I was driving a G80 sized vehicle with S class plushness. But at the current price the G90 is selling at its not as easy a buy as it was last year (which was a total no-brainer from a value perspective). At this price level you would directly compare against an LS 500, and you are within arms length of a starter BMW 7 series. Genesis will need to keep their game face on if they want to stay at this level or even go higher, because they are potentially one Lexus refresh away from being outclassed.

Also I spent about 40 minutes driving the G90, and one thing that was odd was it felt like the lane keep assist was noticeably worse than my last generation GV80. Not sure if there was an issue with that vehicle itself, or if the GV80 has a better view of road lines and, or if Genesis made a change for the worse.

Kind of peeved that it seems the four seater configuration with the Ottoman only seems to be available in the Korean market (I'm told its only available outside Korea in the LWB version). I've asked to see if Genesis would BTO one for me with it, but its currently not officially an option for Middle East spec standard G90s.

Auto close doors felt like they missed a trick. Right now you have to open it by hand, which has a harder initial pull than a normal door because it takes a split second for the mechanical door to register the push and assist you. It opens the rest of the way but I found that initial pull/push to be irritating. I assume you get used to it. And I wish they would have just done it in a way where you could trigger it to open automatically from the outside (I understand why inside would be an issue from a safety perspective but if you're standing outside the door then that shouldn't be an issue. Or if that had an issue they could at least gear up the motor to assist you the second you put your hand in the handle so it could be a feather pull rather than the initial tug it is now. Also the new 7 seems to (from the videos) open all the way, where the G90 kind of just peak-a-boos the door open.

And why the heck is the LWB version faster than the standard one?!

Overall, despite my peeves, this is an easy car to buy and is really a good advancement over last years model. I'll probably order one this week if they can get it for me in a four seater configuration.

Edit: Unfortunately I just got a confirmation that they are not planning on exporting the 4 seater model in the standard size car out of Korea until as long as 2025 :confused:

Hello, again, everyone. If you've read my other post, you know how stressful the last couple of weeks have been. I engaged in some "therapy" and attached are the results. Foaming, washing, claying, polishing, applying a sealant, and finally applying carnauba wax all in one day is extremely therapeutic...not to mention exhausting. Here are the results.PXL_20220916_161216928~3.webpPXL_20220916_161232712~2.webp

Nice work Doc. Pretty car. Looks better than when the delivered it b

Great looking car.
What's that color?

Well after waiting a few weeks, I picked up my 2023 G90. I had ordered the blue exterior and white interior, which I do love.

Mind you this is my first Genesis. Previous vehicles were a Stinger and before that a Kia K900.

So far I'm loving the vehicle. Lots to learn and play around with.

Will post some photos when I resize them.

Looks like a glossy Makalu Gray
It's actually Hallasan Green, but the color varies according to the light and the angle at which it is viewed. Quite pretty, actually. It reminds me of the dark grayish green that was available on Porsche and VW cars in the 80's, which I absolutely loved.

For those interested, Doug has his G90 "review" out.

The Canadian pricing is something I'm not happy with. I knew it was going to be expensive but the finance/lease rates make it even worse.

Just over CAD$124,000 all in. Lease rates of 6.1% for 39 months. Ouch.

Indeed, my lease rate money factor was .00179 for 36 months and 12k miles/year here in the US.

What's the residual? Is it the supercharged version?

It pretty much dashes my hopes of getting one. Unless I buy out my G80 at the end of lease, sell it privately and then pursue a new G90.

I don't recall. I will see if I can find it in all the paperwork.

Also, I did promise photos earlier, so here are a few. I got the Capri Blue with white interior.

Was your buying experience good, bad, or somewhere in between?
