2023 GV60 emergency key not in the fob

Unlike other Genesis later models, the 2023 emergency key is not in the fob. My GV60 was not responding to my remote. I could not open the door using both my and my other spare remote. The app was not communicating with the car either. I was not sure if it was a server connectivity problem or something else but to do anything like reset the modem I need to get into the car. I looked around trying to get answers and a lot talked about using the emergency key hidden in the fob. I f8nally discovered that with the 2023 model they give you specific emergency keys when you buy the car. I found it but my enthusiasm was short lived as the key turned but the door needs power to get unlocked. I think the 12v battery died… You can’t get in without some sort of power.

Curious if anyone else has a similar experience.

You can open the door without power using the emergency key. That's what it's for. If the 12 volt is dead, once you open the door you can open the frunk to get to the the 12 volt to jump start it.

As steveinarizona says, the emergency key will indeed open the driver door without needing any power. But it’s a little stiff to turn it, so apply more force than you may be used to.

Yes, thanks guys. That was it. It was a bit stiff turning left but easy turning right. That led me to believe that it had to do with the power. I ended up that if I turned the key left with a bit more pressure it would open. The dealer opened the next day and explained it to my dumb ass. I opened the car, the frunk, and then boosted the battery to get me to the dealer. About $400 CDN to replace. I was a bit surprised that there were no early warnings. You would think if they can get a cell phone to let you know you're running low, they would be able to let you know if the 12V is dying.

Thanks guys. I ended up discovering that when the dealer opened the next day and he explained it to my dumb ass. It was stiff turning left and the key is a thin piece of metal which is why i hesitated. Once I did get in, I opened the frunk and boosted the battery which got me to the dealer. The 12v was indeed dead. It cost $400 CDN to replace. I got the latest recall taken care of as well. I do find is strange that there was no warning that the battery was dying. Fine one minute and dead the next. You would think if your cell phone can tell you, this advanced vehicle can tell you as well. It would have saved a lot of grief.

You paid out of pocket for the battery? Shouldn't that be under warranty if the vehicle is still under warranty?

The 12 volt is 3/36 like most every car.
