  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Nearly new (2,100 miles) 2025 G80 3.5T Sport Prestige. Car parked in garage. Battery has died two times in the last five days. I haven’t changed any settings or anything. What could be causing the drain?

All doors firmly shut and locked and windows up? Anything plugged into any usb or 12v ports (incl bare cords)? Any add ons like camera?

Nothing. Doors were unlocked, in my garage, and no different from previously.

None of the things you have mentioned. Car parked in my garage at home, just like the past several months – nothing different.

My guess is you have an electrical drain somewhere. My understanding is these can be difficult to find. Hopefully, you local Genesis dealer has a tech that knows how to troubleshoot these. At least it is under warranty...I know still a drag. You buy a new car NOT to have issues. Good Luck

I had the same issue with mine. I had it towed to the dealership. The tow truck driver said the battery was at 4 volts. He jumped the car, got it halfway down the driveway, and it died. He jumped it a 2nd time and loaded it on the flatbed. The dealership recharged the battery and could not find any problem other than low battery voltage.

I have not had it happen again and it has been 2 months.

The dealer agreed that if it happened again, they would send the tech to my house to look at the car rather than have it towed first.

The dealer had no loaner cars available since it was not a scheduled service. I rented a car from Hertz and Genesis ran me through the ringer before they reimbursed me for the rental. Totally unacceptable for a luxury car brand. Genesis should have arranged the loaner directly and paid for it. Instead, I had to spend several hours on the phone with them to get reimbursement. They questioned my integrity, which really annoyed me.

Anyone else have this issue with a 2021 or newer G80? How was it resolved?

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
FWIW, I’ve heard that if the fobs are stored within about 20 feet of where the car is parked the proximity will keep the car “awake” and contribute to battery drain. Don’t know if it’s true, tho.

Update:
So far, the dealership has replaced the battery, saying that the original battery was “bad.” Now, they are recalibrating the battery sensor (which apparently takes several hours). I didn’t know that was a thing. Once that is complete, they will retest everything.

Further update:
I learned that the battery had been replaced in July, before I purchased the car. The dealership says that they have more work to do to figure it out …

Final update:
The dealership talked with Genesis technical staff. More testing was performed (not really sure what all of that was.) Conclusion was that nothing else was wrong except that there had been some drain on the battery. They also asked how far away my key fob was stored, and recommended that I always lock the car, even when it is in my garage, to put the car in “sleep mode.” This is when I realized that my phone (with the digital key installed) was very often connecting with the car.

So, not only the key fob, but also the digital key on your phone could be a problem. I immediately removed the digital key.

Glad it was resolved and a simple resolution. I do not have the issue but perhaps I will lock my car as well in the garage.

Well, another update:
As I said, I immediately removed the digital key from my phone. I assumed that the digital key would, at the same time, be removed from my watch. It was not, which I think was odd. So, I needed to also remove the key from the wallet on my watch.

Dang electronics … 🤔
