Anyone know where the signal / information comes from that suppose to populate these fuel prices? Connected services, Verizon car chip, etc??

How about bad location?
I seriously doubt it’s the chip and it does not use connected services or Verizon. It uses HD digital radio data

I don’t think so, based on Verizon cell signal - IF - that’s where the signal comes from. I tried the map twice for gas prices, both locations in the open and in both areas for the same weak signal on the dash map. My iPhone however, Verizon service , was 2 and 3 bars out of 4.

I didn’t take pictures of the satellite diagram in car, but seemed to show a lot of connectivity too.

You have spent a lot of time investigating the Verizon signal but what makes you think that the fuel price data come from Verizon? Isn’t it on your menu under digital data?

I don’t know where it comes from. I’ve been asking that question and gotten no definitive answer.
I think @Mcc must be right. I haven't enabled Connected Services yet, it has no bars and says "No Service", yet I have up-to-date fuel prices. So it's definitely not through cellular.

When I searched the web, I found this:
Seems to confirm fuel prices come from HD Radio data.

It comes through HD Radio. On older model 90s and the G80 it used XM Data. Hyundai as a whole switched away from it a while back for some reason. It makes it problematic - because if you do not have HD stations programmed in which ALSO carry the service (free to you, but costs the station) - then it doesn't help. In the case here - it looks like you may be too far away from the station(s) which do carry it, and need to program in more of them that do. No telling really which ones do - not all of them do it.

so I do listen to ( but rarely ) and have selected some HD stations where I live. So , if I understand the process, I have to be tuned to HD and have it on and make sure its one of the channels that broadcasts the information I want in order for the feature to work? So, for instance, if we go on a 10 hour trip, we have to search for the applicable stations in different areas and tune in then wait for the info to populate all while listening to the radio?

Think im going to just forget it. Sounds like a PITA. Anyway, we just picked up the car and the Service Dept didn't even know that it was a feature and had never seen that screen and had no idea how to make it work.

You are making this much more difficult than it is. Sorry you don’t understand. If there is an HD data station in your area, there is NOTHING you need to do. You don’t need to tune to any station or make sure of anything. It simply works if the receiver finds an HD data source. In fact I don’t think you even need to turn on the radio at all.

So not a PITA at. If you are on a 10 hour trip it will pick of the data if it’s available locally. That’s all there is to it. How could it be any simpler using HD data?

Bottom line is, if there’s no info displayed, as in our case, there’s no reason to try and use it. Anyhow, we’re getting ready to take another road trip through 5 different states. So I’ll see if anything comes up then.

Are you sure this is the case in the G90 which uses HD Data? It does a full spectrum scan for HD Data, all the time? I can tell you it is not the case in the Palisade. If the stations which transmit it are not at least programmed into the infotainment system - no HD Data is received. I have tested this twice on each of 2 different Pali's. As the technology package in both are variants of the same offering from Harman - I would be surprised if they were configured differently.

Does yours work with the radio off?

Well I just did this test on my GV80
  • Radio OFF
  • Carplay OFF
  • Phone out of the car
Started it up and after about 10 sec traffic popped up on my native nav screen. Green and yellow freeways. It would seem that if there is HD data out there, it finds it. I would expect that the 2025 G90 works the same way. If you can think of another way that this can happen, let us know.

Tks for the test. I’m curious now - can you post a picture of what the traffic looks like on your nav screen AND if possible a pic of the radar and fuel prices screens? Still nothing for me.

The radio being off doesn't mean that the HD Data service is off. I'd be more interested in knowing what happens if all your presets are changed to frequencies with no signal.

Of course the HD Data service is on, that’s is the only way it makes sense
I don’t the presets would work if the radio is off
If you are driving into a different area it would make no sense to try to find an HD channel just to get navigation
I have never read anything about making sure you have a preset for an HD channel to get your data to show up
It just works!

Have you had a chance to take any pics to post? Curious to see yours.

Been busy with the fires here. Coming hopefully tonight.

This is actually exactly the problem that Palisade owners are facing - and is why I brought it up here, as it is a variant of the same infotainment system that is used in the current gen G90.
