  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

2025 GV80 Battery/trickle charger/connection points

If I had known I was buying a ICE car that I had to plug in, Me thinks me would have selected a different brand.
If the salesman had mentioned this before I purchased the car, I would have ran next door the another dealer.

Do you really think the battery maintainer industry relies on Genesis vehicles as their customer base. Give us a break Jhon.

I am in my 70's and have owned lots of cars that have purchased new and used. I never put any of them on a battery maintainer. But since I got my Genesis, that has changed.
I am afraid every time I travel and leave my car in a parking lot for more that a week. I wonder... will my car start when I get back to my car after a 3AM Flight in Miami????
I love getting the messages that my battery is low when I am in the Pacific ocean on a cruise. I always have to back in to a parking spot just in case I have to get towed.
I now pack a battery charger/starter in my trunk along with 300 feet of extension cords for piece of mind. And I alway look for a parking lot where I know they have outdoor outlets and park near them.
This is just not right.
I have a 2017 BMW with about 20,000 miles that is hardly used. It sits sometimes for well over a month when we travel. It still has the original 9 1/2 year old battery and has never failed to start. I never worry about it like I do my Genesis.
And yes, I do own three battery tenders, one for my generator, one for my lawn tractor, and not the third for my Genesis.
So Bill Z, give me a break.

Ah.
Boys.
Let’s not get carried away here.
I’m 80 and I honestly do not want to get caught with a dead battery.

We have always used our older Pilot for airport parking. It has done well as far as surviving those experiences are concerned
The “new” car is used for road trips. (Tahoes/a Q7/now the GV80)

I do want options as far as purchasing a specific maintainer and the positions to install that maintainer.

I now have those options thanks to the folks who have chimed in and answered my numerous questions.
I thank you all for providing those options.

The Noco Genius5 is on order.
I am now looking at exactly where I want to install the leads and so on.

Be safe.
Have fun out there.
Be kind.
Bob

Here’s a couple quick pics of my NOCO GC002 eyelet terminal install into the battery compartment on my ’25 GV80. The NOCO GC004 10ft extension then just plugs into it and stays coiled up in the compartment. For use, It can be run out the rear hatch near the bottom center and the hatch closes just fine. I use a NOCO Genius 10 charger.

BTW, I left the car at my detailer for a week to install ceramic paint protection while on vacation and the battery SOC didn't drop. I did ask him to keep the keys far away from the vehicle when not needed.

Nabber.
Thank you for the photos.
One question—
I’ve removed the two screws that hold the battery “cover”in place.
What is the secret of getting the cover off after those screws are removed?
I hesitate to yank on that plastic handle without some reassurance that I am doing the correct thing.

Thank you.
Be safe.

Hi Bob,

There are no screws to remove. You flip up the trunk mat, remove those carpeted triangles, pull the handle and lift up on the carpeted cover. Remove the Large plastic cover underneath (kind of a pain in the rear but not bad), then you are exposed to the left side of Pic1. The right side of that has another cover with bendy clips?, left and right side, that pop off and your exposed to the inside of the positive terminal area in Pic2.

Let me know if you have any more questions.

Hope that helps!

Got it!!
But—
My GV80 battery was covered by one large cover.
In order to expose the battery I did have to remove two screws. They were located where the two circular indentations are in your photo right above and to the left and right of the positive battery post.
And—
No plastic was broken during this procedure!

Thank you!
Bob

Hi all, long time lurker, first time poster - this forum has been a great resource regarding the GV80 battery so want to give back with some of my most recent findings.

The whole battery dilemma is an interesting one, my 2023 GV80 battery generally shows between 64-72% battery health on the connected services website, no matter how long I charge or drive it for. Interestingly enough, after trickle charging it usually shows lower on the battery percentage for the next couple of starts. Not sure why this is, but I assume it may not just take float voltage into consideration.

I did find that there are three SeBang battery distributors (the distributor of Rocket Batteries who manufacture the GV80 battery) in the US, unfortunately they do not ship batteries and the nearest to me is in South Carolina.

I spoke to a gentlemen @ SeBang who could not find the GV80 battery by listed model number, but found one that was the same physical size, with the reversed polarity battery terminals and 50cca higher than the factory GV80 battery.

He did suggest that if I needed a replacement and can't get the OEM design, a 94R or 95R size battery should suffice, however you would need to slightly modify the battery bracket. When I need a new battery I will probably try fitting a 95R and modifying the bracket - currently AGM 95R's run around $250-$270.

One other thing, if you need to perform a software update and don't want to leave the car running, connecting an external power supply will help immensely. I connected an adjustable power supply, set at 13V 10A and left it connected with the car "on" (engine off) to perform the wireless carplay update install VIA usb stick. Worked well.

This is exactly how my 2025 behaves. In fact, I recently had surgery so I hooked up my NOCO and left it for a couple days. State of charge per Connected Services started at ~60% and by the end of the second day, was at 2%. After running errands a couple days later, it was back in the ~70% range.
