If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Purchasing a 21 3.3t Sport soon. Car I am trading in has 245/40/19 winters that are the right load index and speed rating. (I also have a set of rims that will apparently fit according to tire sites). Hoping to use the tires on the G70 but I can not get a straight answer from anywhere as to whether or not 245 width tires will work, (that includes calling two Hyundai dealers that are sister dealers to the Genesis dealers in my area). They just say they have no clue. Does anybody know the answer to this?

I have never had a car with staggered fitment either so I may be missing something there too.

Rims are sized as width (inches) x diameter (inches). The G70 Sport has 8x19 rims up front and 8.5x19 in the rear. You can google for compatible tire widths for an 8 inch wide rim. A quick search shows that a 225 or 235 tire is recommended, but you can go down to 215 or up to 245 if necessary. This will obviously have an impact on the handling of the car. To what degree, I don't know as I've never tried to change widths from an OEM setup.

Additionally, if you have an AWD G70, you'll have to make sure the difference in tire size from the OEM setup won't hurt the AWD system by causing a difference in revs/mile of the front and rear wheels. This site is great for seeing the differences in tire sizes: Tire Size Comparison.

So the tire size on the 3.3T staggered setup is 225/40/19 in the front and 255/35/19 in the rear. The rim width in the front is 8in and rear is 8.5in. An 8in rim can fit a maximum of 245mm wide tires, so you should be fine with this setup in the front. You may get some tire rubbing, but the possibility wouldn't be anything excessive. As for the rear, you would be 10mm under the width of the stock tire setup.

The part where it get's tricky is the sidewall ratio and revolutions/mile since your aspect ratios are slightly different. I use Tire Size to calculate these differences and they have a variety of helpful tools for what kind of tires you want to throw on.

With the winter tires you want to put on, both the front and rear wheels will be slightly larger in circumference than the stock setup. This will ever so slightly miscalculate your speed and odometer reading with this setup unless you can find a way to calibrate it, or just ignore it altogether.

For your reference here is the front tire comparison between the stock tire and the winter tire you already have

I'm not sure if the G70 you're looking at is RWD or AWD, but I would recommend keeping the 255width on the rear since this car loves to step out in RWD fashion. (If you plan on getting RWD that is)

Hope that helps.

Thanks so much. This is great info. It is an AWD. So if I was to go 225/40/19 all the way around would that work? Or is that too narrow for the rear. I have no idea how staggered setups work. I know that the dealer says go to 18s for the winter but I feel it ruins the look of the car.

Can you post the link for this tire comparsion? Thanks

Sorry if I confused you more with my first reply. For some reason I thought you only had 2 of those tires for the front and would be putting something else on the rear. To answer your question about the staggered setup - Genesis chose the sizes so the front and rear tires will rotate at almost exactly the same speed with the staggered setup. In fact, the non-sport models with 18 inch wheels come with 225/45/18 all around. When all the tires are the same size, it's called a square setup. Because this car runs a staggered setup with tires that rotate the same speed as well as a square setup from the factory, going to a square setup is completely fine. As the images in the reply above show, your speedometer will read about 2 MPH faster at 80-90MPH than your car is actually going. Tire Size Comparison

if youre using 245s on all 4, and using the old wheels, you should be fine as long as the wheels are the correct offset/bolt pattern/hub size. might have to use spacers if the offset is too far back. if its too far out, youll be poking.

if using the stock staggered wheels, will still probably be fine but your front and rears will look a little different. front will be bulging a tad and rear will be stretched a tad compared to stock. The difference in width of 245s and 225s is ~.5" and 245 to 255 is ~.5". Your speedo will be off slightly, but not enough to get you in trouble. w/ in a mph or 2 at 70ish mph

Sure thing! Yes, it should work in terms of functionality to use the same tire all the way around. The rim width supports a range for the width of a tire.
Just for reference 8in rim can support a range of width of 215 to 245mm and the 8.5in rim is between 225 to 255mm.

I'm not sure how it will look on the car since the offset for the rim is bigger on the rear than the front.

I don't know how much snow you get where you live, but the 225 will be much better in the snow than 245. Something to consider.
Thanks for the reply. We get lots of snow. I know narrower is better in snow but the 245s have been great on my AWD TLX.

I have 19x8.5 ruffino teknik with +35 offset. I would try to use them with the 245/40/19 x-ice tires all around. I noticed when I plug the mfr suggested 18" tire size into the calculator you linked there is a slight difference from the oem staggered 19s so i guess they account for some and I know there are rules to follow as several people have mentioned, (you included).

Looks like based on my comparisons with this tool, going to 225/40/19 all around for winters is a good option. (pdf attached).

I would make sure your front size and rear are matched in revs/mile so not only the awd but the ABS system is happy as well.

I know this may not be helpful at all but i run 19x9 inch wheels in the front with 245/35/19 tires. They fit perfectly fine.
I have 275/30/19 in the back so my diameter difference is 1.1%.

If he puts 245 out front the car will step out even more in theory.

Yes. You can use willtheyfit.com to visualize this. I would highly suggest against trying 245 front and back when your rims are staggered. Going from 225 to 245 in front and from 255 to 245 in the rear will look extremely weird.
