First Generation 265/40R Tires on Rear

Has anyone put 265mm width tires on their rear wheels? The general rule from what I've gathered online is that the width of the wheel should be at least 75% of the tire width. For an 8" width wheel the max safe size would be rounded down to a 265mm width tire.

When I lower my Genesis at some point soon I would consider the idea of putting wider tires on the rear to give a more sporty appearance and give better traction. Thoughts or pictures appreciated.

Alright, cool. Thanks. I noticed you have 8.5" and 10" width wheels whereas mine are 8". Still, 265's would seem OK for mine from what I've read. Do you have pictures posted somewhere of yours?
 
According to Tire Rack, rim width range for 265/40 tires would be 9-10.5"

Personally, I would get 245/xx for those 18x8 rims. Anything wider than that is asking for trouble.

Thanks. Funny how you get conflicting information on various sites. I looked over TR's research materials and the smallest rim they recommend for a 255 is a 8.5". Other sites say you can go up to 265 with an 8". I'll play it conservative I guess.

You cannot run a 265 on an 8" wheel. It will physically fit but it will bulge a huge amount and handling will be sloppy. Not to mention that but installing that size tire on that wheel will automatically void the tire's warranty. Whoever is telling you it will fit should not be selling tires.
