  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

About a year and a half ago a 2012 genesis 5.0 L R-spec broke a bearing and it’s motor at 55,000 miles. I had the motor replaced with a 40,000 mile motor which only lasted 8000 miles so now my car is 63,000 miles total will be on its third 5.0L V8. My car is serviced at the Hyundai dealer, so I do not know why my motors keep failing. Any insight into this matter is greatly appreciated.

Try running a thicker oil. I use 10w40. Lot of rod knock and bearing issues happen when the oil viscosity drops too low or lack of oil feed. Dealer recommended 5w20 is honestly too thin in my opinion and experience with the automotive industry. The cars run really rich from the factory which only thins the oil out even more under acceleration due to fuel seeping past the piston rings. I'm at 200k miles with harsh abuse on my R spec.

Thanks for advice. Is your car tined, looking at your mods. I have been looking at a turbo for mine. This 3rd engine has 93k mi, my car only 63k.

My 4.6 just started the same noise .I only have 106 K on mine If the engine starts that noise , changing the oil might get rid of the noise ?

Sadly if the noise already started it's only downhill from there

Would 10W-30 also be suitable?

Wow 4.18 gear. Can you still drive on the highway? As for mine I have the cold air intake , granatelli coils and race wires . Custom exhaust JDM did the tuning , Ridged collars for the handling .

Yes the car is taken on numerous 3-4 hr trips on the highway. Driven to NY from Florida twice. 23mpg on straight ethanol and 27mpg on E85

So I found out from the Hyundai dealer, the Vin number of the motor that was put in my car was from a 2013 Equus which had 96,000 miles not 40,000 miles like my motor was supposed to have. So time to get a lawyer. I get to pick my Genesis up tomorrow gonna cost me 11 grand out of pocket.

Sheesh I'm sorry to hear that. Definitely get your lawyer involved, that's an insane amount to replace that engine.

I also found out dealer installed flex plate wrong and steering shart through header and block was seized. Also electrical problem that Alaska dealer neglected to fix. Dealer here said “they should have known better.” The 2nd motor installed was bad. It had melted plastic in the coolant. They tried to replace the bad parts but they melted again. Dealer in VA is going to help me in this matter.
