  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Did a service on my G80 Sport today, used a Napa gold filter.
Never cared for the paper end caps and the method of sealing on the oem filter.
The Napa filter has plastic end caps O rings to seal, and more pleats of the filter media it self.20200319_115057.webp20200319_115040.webp20200319_113231.webp20200319_113212.webp20200319_113203.webp20200319_115057.webp20200319_115040.webp20200319_113231.webp20200319_113212.webp20200319_113203.webp20200319_115057.webp20200319_115057.webp20200319_115057.webp20200319_113231.webp20200319_113212.webp20200319_115057.webp20200319_115040.webp20200319_115057.webp20200319_115040.webp20200319_113231.webp20200319_113212.webp20200319_113203.webp20200319_115057.webp20200319_115040.webp20200319_113231.webp20200319_113212.webp20200319_113203.webp

Napa filter looks to be the same as my Wix filter that I got from Rock Auto for $4.77 or so. Same markings on the end cap too.

5 bucks is an awesome deal, thanks for the tip, the napa was $13. I truly believe these after market filter exceed the oem's build quality by a large margin.

Here is what I used in my G70 sport. B4CFB4A7-57DA-4028-AC27-1FA41A6224FE.webp

I just did some rough calculations and found that if you pay $5 less for an oil filter every 7500 miles
you will save about $160.00 in 10 years. If you have an internal engine problem during those 10 years it will cost you $5000++ if they find a non dealer oil filter in the engine.
I WILL use OEM from the dealer, and nothing else.
Just food for thought.

If it was about money I'd let the dealer carelessly do the oil and filter for free.
My dealer showed me the oil they use(and doesn't meet spec)and how quickly they do the service.
Not about the money, it's about quality. Saving a few bucks on a quality filter is just a bonus not a motivator.
I take pride in my ride and want to care for it with all my knowledge, skills and heart.

I only buy the filters from the dealer. I service my car, not the dealer. I bought my G80 that came with
the 3 years of free service. Car now has 38K now but has not been to the dealer for any services.
I want it done right.

If you care, take a good look at the end of the OEM filter when you take it out. When you run your finger around the hole that goes into the filter housing first, you'll feel that the paper end cap hole is not really round, the paper does not seal well around the nozzle in the housing. Go get a wix or Napa filter and compare side by side with the oem filter for your self. Food for thought.... if you had an engine oil related problem, It would be illegal for the manufacturer to deny warranty because you used an after market, correctly spec'd oil filter, when the defect was in materials or workmanship of the component that failed.

Acpantera, I won't say the dealer oil filter is better, but just say it is good enough until the warranty runs out. True, they can not void the warranty because it has an aftermarket part, but they sure can hold up the progress of the repair while you prove that the filter you used is approved by Hyundai/Genesis.

And it came with the O ring and crush washer?
Yes Sir. Filter had the same markings and came from South Korea. Everyone should remember Genesis does not manufacture filters. Filter manufacturers do that. Those who sleep better if the filter box says Genesis, your choice. I’ve never used a Chevy filter, a Ford filter, a Nisson filter. Always used name brand filters, done my own oil changes since age 16 using quality name brand oil. Never had an internal engine issue and sleep good at night knowing I did the work using trusted brands and not some dealer grease monkey who you don’t really know what the hell they are doing. To each his own.

I agree with you about 99%. There was one of the engines in an older model that had some problems with non-OEM filters. Perhaps someone will chime in with details on that.
